Summary

The City of Williston is seeking to hire an EMS Lieutenant to serve the Williston Fire Department.

The incumbent is responsible for providing supervision over ambulance, engine or truck company personnel and operations in emergency and non‑emergency occurrences. The incumbent is also responsible for emergency response for EMS, fire suppression, Hazmat, and other forms of special rescues.

The EMS Lieutenant may be the first arriving officer at an emergency scene and is responsible for establishing incident command as well as effectively deploying equipment and manpower. Depending on the scene conditions, an EMS Lieutenant may be expected to lead a crew with interior and/or exterior operations on a fire scene or provide ALS care to BLS level crews. When a higher‑ranking officer arrives, the EMS Lieutenant may සැ transfer incident command to that officer.

The EMS Lieutenant will be responsible for the training and development of subordinates.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Supervises personnel assigned to company to ensure rules/regulations and standard operating guidelines are being followed; serves as Officer in Charge in the absence of a higher authority.
  • Safely deliver crew members and equipment to the scene of all types of emergencies; EMS, Fire, Hazmat, MVA, extrication, Technical Rescue and Aerial Operations.
  • Emergency response for EMS, fire suppression, Hazmat, and other forms of special rescues.
  • Assumes.average responsibility for apparatus and equipment during assigned shift; may drive vehicle to emergency scenes; supervises personnel assigned to apparatus at scene of emergency.

  • Administer drugs, provides medical treatment and transportation for sick and injured citizens when needed, all within EMS scope of practice.
  • Transports sick and injured patient’s long distances to adequate care facilities, as needed.
  • Engages in public education events with children, adults, and schools. Education includes, but is not limited to EMS education, fire prevention, public speaking, and tours.
  • Manage the QA Process of EMS reporting.
  • Clean and maintain station and equipment.
  • Restock medical supplies and equipment as needed.
  • Regularly participates in personal, company and department training.
  • Regularly participates in either group or self‑directed physical fitness activities during duty hours.
  • Check all equipmentamental perform minor maintenance on the apparatus and equipment and record any apparatus maintenance problems.
  • Mentoring and training of Driver/Operators and Firefighters.
  • Operating the pumps and delivering water supplies; aerial devices, and other equipment at working fires.
  • Perform recordkeeping and completion of computer forms for daily truck checks, time clock recording and all other required forms.
  • Perform pump and hose test as scheduled.
  • Maintains familiarity with buildings and streets in immediate coverage area and outlying areas of the City.
  • Maintains professional relationships with the community and City personnel.
  • Perform all work duties and activities in accordance with City policies and procedures.
