PPI Quality & Engineering is seeking a highly qualified Quality Control Specialist to support our growing operations. This role will involve rotating assignments between Houston, Williston, and Louisiana, with occasional travel to Colorado and Wyoming as project needs dictate. The ideal candidate will bring strong QA/QC expertise, the ability to adapt quickly across multiple sites, and a commitment to upholding the highest quality and safety standards while supporting both client and internal requirements.
Responsibilities- Conducts quality audits to key suppliers and services providers per API Q1, API Q2, DS-1 and/or Quality Manual as applicable.
- Drilling:
Cementing, casing, running, directional, (motor/MWD), fluids, liner, hangers, wireline logging. MPD. Completions:
Pumping, valves, wireline plug & perf. flowback Other:
As requested by ops/engineering - Casing pulling, wireline, pumping, cement retainers. Other:
As requested by ops/engineering - Performs pre-load out verifications to drilling/completion equipment as requested by the operations superintendent/wells engineer.
- Review of manufacturing and maintenance records (as applicable).
- Traceability check (review of serial numbers against records).
- Visual inspections
- Function/pressure testing witness.
- Performs failure investigations to drilling/completion equipment as applicable per a quality event matrix and root cause analysis (RCA) process flow.
- Steward the quality event reporting process, document in required locations and share learnings.
- Leads KPI reviews with key service providers on a quarterly basis.
- ROPs, BHA runs, drilling/pumping hours, wireline runs, etc.
- Failures/incidents
- New technology and engineering solutions.
- Reviews key vendor’s quality plans to adjust quality requirements as needed.
- Conducts data analytics to review drilling vendor’s performance. Key metrics:
Total BHA runs, total failures, mean runs between failure (MRBF), hours to failure, etc. QCS to keep track of database obtained from BHA information and interval problems. - Supports engineering/operations cost reduction initiatives by providing equipment reliability and performance data.
- Supports procurement team during RFQs by providing quality insights.
- Engages with the ERS network in continuous improvement efforts.
- Provides technical guidance to third party monitors (TPIs) when contracted.
- Provides support for drill string connections MUT and best practices.
- 5+ years of experience
- Understanding of quality management systems (API Q1, API Q2, ISO 9001:2015).
- Understanding of hydraulic and mechanical systems.
- Understanding of life-cycle management.
- Understanding of root cause analysis (RCA), and failure mode and effect analysis (FMEA).
- Understanding of function and primary failure modes of drilling/completion equipment.
- Understanding of non-destructive inspection methods (liquid penetrant, magnetic particle, ultrasonics, EMI).
- Understanding of manufacturing and machining processes.
- Basic use of Excel’s pivot tables and data analysis.
- 50% travel may be required
