NEW GRADS WELCOME! All new graduate RNs with less than one year of experience are automatically enrolled in Sentara’s dynamic 6‑month Nurse Residency program, designed specifically for new graduate RNs. The program offers practical skills, hands‑on training, professional development, and mentoring across all 12 Sentara hospitals in specialties such as Medical‑Surgical, Intermediate Care, Critical Care, Emergency Care, Operating Room, and Women’s Health.

RN Degree: RN Diploma, ADN, BSN, or MSN.

RN License valid to work in the State of Virginia.

The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for performing a competent level of nursing care as demonstrated by the nursing process. Primary duties include assessing and admitting patients, rounding checks, administering medications, communicating with families, and being responsible for the overall care of patients. The RN works within the standards of assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation, as well as professional performance standards such as ethics, cultural competence, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence‑based practice, quality, resource utilization, and environmental health.

All Direct Care RNs are required to have BLS (Basic Life Support) within 90 days of hire. For specific specialties, additional requirements such as BLS and NIHH may apply.
