House Manager – Branching Tree, Williamsburg, MA

Branching Tree is a nonprofit creating a small community of inclusive homes where adults with and without intellectual and developmental disabilities live together in genuine community, rooted in belonging, mutual care, and everyday life.

We’re looking for a compassionate, joyful person or couple to join our household team as a House Manager, supporting adults with intellectual disabilities and autism in daily life, meaningful relationships, and community activities.

The Role

The House Manager is the heart and guide of the household. Living alongside three adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and two live-in Direct Support Providers, you will help cultivate a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment where everyone can thrive. You will share meals, routines, and daily life with residents and coworkers while maintaining private space for rest and balance.

Household expenses such as food, utilities, basic maintenance, and shared activities are covered through a monthly household budget.

This is a relationship-centered, lifestyle role that blends leadership, mentoring, caregiving, and practical household management. You will provide direct support to residents, guide and coach coworkers, coordinate schedules, and establish daily rhythms that reflect the needs, preferences, and strengths of the household. This role involves providing consistent, hands-on support throughout the day to adults with significant support needs, including support with daily routines, communication, and emotional regulation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Create and sustain a safe, supportive, and inclusive home, modeling respect, dignity, and positive communication. Champion the values required to live in community. Build genuine, mutually beneficial relationships with the residents and DSPs.
  • Oversee daily household operations, including meal planning, cooking, cleaning, budgeting, and basic maintenance
  • Provide direct support with activities of daily living, personal care, social engagement, and community participation
  • Make decisions regarding emergencies, resident behavior, staff assignments, and activity schedules
  • Be cognizant of all Branching Tree policies with regard to the care, safety, treatment and health of all residents, including fire drill procedures, locations and use of fire-extinguishing equipment and emergency exits, runaway procedures, first aid and seizure procedures, and medication procedures
  • Develop and pivot household schedules and coverage, ensuring smooth flow and collaboration among residents and staff
  • Respond calmly and thoughtfully to challenges and unexpected situations, providing guidance during moments of stress, anxiety, or behavioral intensity
  • Collaborate with families, contracted agencies, and community-based providers to align support with person-centered goals
  • Monitor the health and safety of all residents, complete accident reports, and coordinate routine doctor/medical/dental appointments and maintain records
  • Ensure that behavioral, medical, or other emergency situations are communicated according to the Emergency Procedures Policy
  • Ensure that mandated documents (incident reports) are submitted by the next day
  • Establish individual relationships and work with each resident according to his/her ISP, ADL objectives and specific behavior
  • Ensure that medication is dispensed according to doctors orders, and that medication administration is completed and documented
  • Coordinate social, leisure, and recreational time, and ADLs (Activities of Daily Living) in accordance with resident’s Individualized Support Plan
  • Provide and supervise small or large-group activities for residents, as scheduled
  • Prepare meals for and with residents, participate in mealtime, and to clean up facilities after meals
  • Ensure that all special diets and / or treatments are implemented accurately
  • Organize and supervise shower and bedtime programs
  • Supervise the waking up, dressing, grooming and breakfast of the residents prior to their leaving the residence in the AM (overnight staff)
