. This position is located in Williamsburg, Virginia.
The Medical Assistant is responsible for a variety of patient care, technical, and clerical related functions under the direct supervision of the physician and practice manager. The assistant maintains clinic patient flow, assists members of the care team, and provides a wide range of health care services while supporting quality and safe care.
What You Will Do- Maintain excellent clinical competency by adhering to the standard clinical expectations for Riverside Medical Group, including updating and verifying patient records and preparing patients for examination by obtaining vital signs.
- Prepare and sanitize exam rooms before and after appointments, administer medications and vaccines under physician supervision, and assist with processing prescription refill requests.
- Maintain medical inventory, keep exam rooms stocked, and ensure equipment is operating properly, facilitating preventive maintenance when needed.
- Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations, including HIPAA and OSHA, and with scope of practice standards.
- Act as a liaison between physician and patient, providing support and comfort during clinic visits, chaperoning sensitive examinations, and delivering excellent customer service via phone and electronic means.
- Manage patient expectations, clarify delays, assist in scheduling appointments, referrals, and provide educational instructions per provider guidelines and the electronic medical record.
- Perform lab procedures such as specimen collection, phlebotomy, point of care testing, and, when applicable, ABN’s, and process and send specimens to the correct laboratory.
- Follow insurance carrier guidelines and Medicare regulations, maintain working knowledge of ICD-9 and CPT coding, and obtain necessary prior authorizations.
- Schedule tests and specialist visits within network limitations and support productivity goals to maximize use of facility resources.
- High School Diploma or GED (Required)
- Program Graduate, Medical Assistant (Required)
- 1 year clinical experience (Preferred)
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) – American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) (Upon Hire, Required)
- CPR/BLS Certification – American Heart Association / American Red Cross / American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) (Upon Hire, Required)
- CCMA – National Health career Association (NHA) (Upon Hire, Required)
- Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) – American Medical Technologists (AMT) (Upon Hire, Required)
- Medical Assistant – National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) (Upon Hire, Required)
- Medical Assistant (MA) – American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA) (Upon Hire, Required)
