Overview

William & Mary invites applications for a 1‑year, non‑tenure track Visiting Assistant Teaching Professor of Neuroscience (Cellular or Molecular Neuroscience). This appointment will begin on August 10, 2026.

The role focuses on teaching the introductory course "Exploring Neuroscience:
Molecules, Cells and Synapses" each semester and additional neuroscience courses that emphasize cellular, molecular, or quantitative approaches. The successful candidate will be an effective teacher with a 3‑3 teaching load.

Responsibilities

• Teach the introductory Neuroscience course each semester.
• Provide instruction and mentorship in additional neuroscience courses within the candidate’s area of expertise.

Required Qualifications
  • A Ph.D. or ABD in Neuroscience, Biology or a closely related discipline at the time the appointment begins (August 10, 2026).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience teaching or mentoring undergraduates.
Conditions of Employment
  • This position may require additional hours beyond the typical work week, including occasional overnight and weekend work as needed.
  • The appointment is restricted to the term in which it is assigned and hired.

  • A sample syllabus for an introductory Neuroscience course that emphasizes cellular and molecular mechanisms.
