Community Forge is a nonprofit organization that works to be a living example of community reinvestment and economic development that is inclusive and humanizing. We emphasize breaking down silos in the Pittsburgh area by creating connections between members of disinvested communities and those with resources and knowledge to share. Simultaneously, the Forge anchors key community resources that uplift those living in distressed communities in proximity to our building in the heart of Wilkinsburg.
Since opening its doors in 2018, Community Forge has established itself as a home for community servants, violence interrupters, artists, educators, students, entrepreneurs, and innovators from Wilkinsburg and surrounding neighborhoods in Pittsburgh’s East End.
Site Supervisors play a critical role in advancing Community Forge’s violence prevention efforts through the evidence-based Cure Violence model. This position focuses on coordinating, mobilizing, and overseeing staff who are deployed to build relationships with individuals who are at the highest risk of involvement in gun violence in the Homewood and communities.
Principal (Essential) Duties- Coordinate with Assistant Program Manager to ensure staff have access to and an understanding of official data about shootings and homicides for the target area.
- Coordinate with the Assistant Program Manager to address resource needs of staff and program participants.
- Day-to-day oversight of the Outreach Workers and Violence Interrupters including:
- Facilitating “daily briefings” at the beginning of each shift to review violent incidents that have taken place in the target area, review all current conflicts and potential conflicts which can lead to violence, determine roles and responsibilities for the shift, and check in with staff in accordance with the training provided by Cure Violence Global.
- Facilitate “daily de-Briefings at the end of each shift to discuss the work of the day, outstanding issues, and ensure staff are documenting their work.
- Conduct individual supervisions of Violence Interrupters and Outreach Worker.
- Determine the canvassing schedule for the team for the week, depending on current community dynamics.
- Activate, or “Sign off,” on participants to activate them in the database
- Coordinate efforts of Violence Interrupters and Outreach Workers when a violent event occurs within the target area.
- In coordination with the Assistant Program Manager, conduct outreach to local community groups, businesses, and potential resources in the target area.
- Document daily activities in Cure Violence Global Comm Care database
- Review Violence Interrupter and Outreach Workers data collection on regular basis
- Review monthly Key Program Indicator report provided by Cure Violence Global to inform implementation.
The work shift for this role is Tuesday-Saturday, 3:00 PM - 11:00 PM.
