Community Forge is a nonprofit organization that works to be a living example of community reinvestment and economic development that is inclusive and humanizing. We emphasize breaking down silos in the Pittsburgh area by creating connections between members of disinvested communities and those with resources and knowledge to share. Simultaneously, the Forge anchors key community resources that uplift those living in distressed communities in proximity to our building in the heart of Wilkinsburg.
Since opening its doors in 2018, Community Forge has established itself as a home for community servants, violence interrupters, artists, educators, students, entrepreneurs, and innovators from Wilkinsburg and surrounding neighborhoods in Pittsburgh’s East End.
The Curriculum & Instructional Lead is responsible for developing, managing, and evaluating curriculum across Community Forge's youth and adult programming in technical areas including robotics, advanced manufacturing, graphic design and animation, software development, artificial intelligence, information technology, and networking. This role bridges curriculum development with hands-on instruction, delivering lessons to both adult workforce development participants and youth education program students. The position requires expertise in creating learning pathways from beginner foundations through career-ready skills, managing small instructional teams, and providing professional development to other educators.
Principal(Essential) Duties Curriculum Development & Management
- Design and develop comprehensive, age-appropriate curriculum for beginner through career preparation levels in technology related areas
- Create learning objectives, lesson plans, assessments, and instructional materials that align with industry standards and prepare learners for employment or further education
- Establish and implement assessment strategies to measure learner progress and program effectiveness
- Maintain organized curriculum documentation and resources for use by other instructors
- Deliver engaging, hands-on instruction in Community Forge's adult workforce development and youth education programs
- Deploy curriculum at partner schools and community organizations as assigned, adapting instruction to various settings and audiences
- Monitor student progress, provide constructive feedback, and adjust instruction to maximize learning outcomes an inclusive, safe, and supportive learning environment for all participants
- Manage and mentor small teams of instructors and fellows
- Provide training and professional development to educators on curriculum implementation, instructional best practices, and technical content
- Conduct classroom observations and provide constructive feedback to support instructor growth
- Coordinate with instructional staff to ensure consistent, high-quality program delivery across all locations
- Stay current with developments in education technology, instructional design, and relevant technical fields
- Build and maintain relationships with partner schools, community organizations, and industry partners
- Collaborate with the Director of Programs and other Community Forge staff to align curriculum with organizational goals and community needs
- Represent Community Forge at community meetings, conferences, and professional development opportunities, as needed
- Strong knowledge in at least three of the following technical areas: robotics, advanced manufacturing, graphic design and animation, software development, AI, IT, networking, making and fabrication, or audio/video engineering.
- Ability to design effective curriculum at both introductory and advanced levels
- Strong instructional skills with experience teaching both youth and adult learners
- Experience in curriculum development, instructional design, or educational program management
- Demonstrated ability to manage and mentor small teams
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with ability to explain complex technical concepts to diverse audiences
