Maintenance Mechanic II, Center City Skilled Nursing (FT Days)
Under the direction of the Facilities Services Manager or his/her designee, the Maintenance Mechanic II performs a variety of maintenance and engineering duties including maintaining, repairing, operating, and renovating plant and facilities for the Facilities Services Department. The role may also involve receiving guidance and instruction from the Master or Senior Mechanic, and on evenings and weekends may be called upon to take direction from the Plant Operating Technician.
In addition, the Maintenance Mechanic II may be expected to give direction and guidance to the Maintenance Mechanic I or others as assigned by the Facilities Services Manager.
Incumbent is guided by a comprehensive and proven skill in at least one trade and a basic knowledge of building trades, carpentry, painting, electrical, plumbing, HVAC and mechanical repairs, plant maintenance methods, techniques and procedures, operation and use of department equipment and supplies. Assigned duties are implemented in a manner appropriate to the age‑specific needs of the patients served.

EDUCATION- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum of two (2) years of trade school or work experience as listed below.
- Minimum of five (5) years as a Maintenance Mechanic in a similar sized health care institution in engineering discipline.
- A demonstrated skill in one trade and basic understanding of other trades acquired through similar on‑the‑job training.
- Ability to read, comprehend, and transmit complicated detailed instructions in writing and orally.
- In‑depth knowledge of all applicable OSHA standards (e.g., Right to Know, Lock Out/Tag Out, and Ladder safety, and other standards that may apply).
- Ability to perform basic arithmetic calculations required.
- Good written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills required for effective communication with staff and management.
- Ability to make decisions and meet deadlines required.
- Valid PA driver’s license required for travel to various Allied facilities.
- Ability and willingness to work in a manner that will not needlessly endanger the safety of themselves, others and equipment.
- Personal Protective Equipment is required for the following operations:
- Working on/above ceiling: approved eye protection;
- Using hand/power tools: approved eye protection;
- Soldering and brazing: approved face and eye protection, approved hand protection;
- Refrigerant handling: approved face and eye protection, approved hand protection;
- Handling chemicals: approved face and eye protection, approved hand protection.
- Moderate work: duties require exerting up to 25 lbs. of force occasionally (approx 10‑33% of shift), and/or up to 10 lbs. of force frequently (approx 33‑66% of the time), and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, and move objects.
- Position involves climbing ladders, bending, reaching, twisting, sitting, standing, kneeling, pulling, and stooping (occasionally in strained position) throughout shift.
- Ability to transport self throughout facility is required.
- Climbs stairs, ladders, and equipment; has good sense of balance to work on heights.
- Some lifting of medium and/or heavy equipment and tools.
- Must be able to travel to various Allied facilities as required.
- Exposure to mechanical/electrical hazards.
- Position involves use of hand and power‑operated equipment.
- Occasional exposure to building materials, such as paint, plaster, and cleaners.
- Occasional exposure to lawn and HVAC chemicals, such as fertilizer, insecticides, boiler and cooling system treatments.
- Occasional exposure to pollen, seed, plants and insects.
- Some exposure to extreme degrees of heat, noise, dust, and dirt areas requiring infection control.
- Ability to meet deadlines and make sound decisions sometimes under stress.
- Works whatever hours necessary to maintain facility in safe manner including weekends and nights.
- Occasionally works in confined spaces.
