Job Summary: Leads and coordinates the daily operations of assigned section in conjunction with leadership. Plans, organizes and directs the activities of the section personnel to provide optimal, cost-effective delivery of services in accordance with departmental standards of quality, productivity, system-wide integration and standardization.
Hiring Incentive: This position qualifies for a $12,500 SIGN ON BONUS for eligible candidates
Responsibilities- Supervises technical and administrative operations of assigned laboratory section.
- Maintain a staff of qualified personnel to assure quality service is provided.
- Selects, instructs and develops employees through interviewing, comprehensive training, delegation, and coaching.
- Conducts performance appraisals; ensures training and orientation of new hires; evaluates employee competency on an ongoing basis.
- Participates with Lab Information Technology Team and doctoral directors to plan and oversee all laboratory information system functions in support of hospital and group practice work processes.
- Ensure staff is trained in all computer applications required for their positions; ensure timely and efficient workflow in support of group practice quality and turnaround time standards of excellence.
- Delegate appropriate tasks daily to ensure equitable workload and adequate coverage of all responsibilities.
- Prepare schedules to ensure adequate staffing to meet service demands and maintain productivity standards.
- Prepare and monitor annual operating budget for section cost centers.
- Collaborate on equipment purchases and leases with the Anatomic Pathology Operations Director.
- Supervise cost analysis for materials and negotiate contracts to obtain favorable prices.
- Oversee section purchasing, receiving, and inventory management to reduce costs.
- Assure section's compliance with applicable regulations and accrediting standards.
- Actively support the Quality Program and facilitate change to realize error reduction and service improvement.
- Provide administrative and transcription support to Pathologists for research projects, Tissue Arrays and the annual laboratory program.
Experience: Related work experience, 6 years as an MLS (Medical Laboratory Scientist) required.
Education: Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college/university with one of the following:
- ASCP/NAACLS-accredited Medical Technology/Medical Laboratory Science program and ASCP certification, or
- Major in biological, chemical, physical, or clinical laboratory science with ASCP categorical certification, or
- Major in biological, chemical, physical, or clinical laboratory science with at least two years' experience in a role equivalent to Medical Laboratory Technician in a clinical laboratory
Certification: ASCP certification eligible; please upload copy of MLS ASCP to application.
Experience: Managing people, processes, or projects – 1 year (preferred).
Hours: 7:00 am – 3:30 pm. No weekends or holidays at this time. Will be included in an on-call rotation.
