Position: Heritage Programmer (Seasonal)

Reporting to the Heritage Coordinator, the Heritage Programmer is responsible for assisting with the update of the municipality's heritage management plan. This position helps promote heritage site recognition and designation through community engagement, documentation, and site reporting. Based in the Wildwood office, this position will provide support for the Heritage Program as a whole; however, it will primarily focus on updating Heritage Sites.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and update the Places of Interest List;
  • Conduct heritage surveys based on the Places of Interest List;
  • Collaborate with provincial contacts to update existing Heritage Survey properties;
  • Research the history of properties, including building materials, construction, occupation, and use;
  • Visit existing Heritage Inventory locations and document changes;
  • Encourage existing Heritage Inventory stakeholders to move to Municipal Heritage Designation;
  • Assist in identifying and implementing community information sessions to encourage stakeholders to submit heritage locations for consideration;
  • Conduct oral histories;
  • Respond to research requests;
  • Respond to requests made by partners, community members, groups, agencies, media, and others as it pertains to programs and events as required;
  • Utilize and manage the online registration system for program enrollment and participant tracking;
  • Assist with Heritage Program events as needed;
  • Collaborate with regional heritage organizations where possible;
  • Assist with the maintenance and documentation of regional cemeteries, including headstone cleaning, plot marking and fence painting;
  • Make note of relevant family histories to the online cemetery database; and
  • Complete all other duties as assigned.
Qualification, Knowledge, Skill & Ability Requirements
  • Education/Experience
  • Grade 12 Diploma;
  • Current enrollment in post-secondary education in a Heritage, History or other related field is preferred;
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience working in a similar position is preferred;
  • Knowledge of regional geography and history is preferred;
  • Experience working with diverse populations (age and culture) is preferred;
  • Standard First Aid with CPR certification is required;
  • The incumbent must provide a Police Record Check with satisfactory results;
  • The incumbent must provide a Driver’s Abstract with satisfactory results; and
  • The incumbent must hold a Defensive Driving certificate completed within the last five (5) years.
  • Knowledge,

    Skills and Abilities
  • Familiarity with regional history and geography is required;
  • High level of organization and time management skills;
  • Ability to speak publicly and present to groups of varying sizes;
  • Ability to read maps quickly and effectively; and
  • Intermediate working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Shift, evening, and weekend work required;
  • Work is conducted in both an open office as well as outdoor environments in varying weather conditions;
  • Travel is required, including transporting of supplies/equipment to programming sites;
  • High intensity visual attention and manual dexterity required to use a computer and peripherals; and
  • Physical ability to assist with event setup/takedown as well as endurance to hike to remote locations for research and/or data collection and event purposes.

The hourly wage is $23.96 to $26.08. This is a seasonal position. Position dates are approximately May 4, 2026 to August 28, 2026.

This position is based out of Wildwood.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Applicants must include a cover letter, resume, 2 written references and driver's abstract to be considered for an interview. Defensive Driving completion is required (5 year validity).
