Operations and Maintenance, Wildwood Conservation Area

Job Status: Seasonal Contract (approximately April 27 – October 18, 2026)

Compensation: $21.96 (starting) to $26.90 per hour, plus 4% in vacation pay

Number of Positions: 1 existing vacancy

Hours of Work: 35 hours per week including evenings and weekends

Location: Wildwood Conservation Area, St. Marys

Reporting to the Superintendent, the Operations and Maintenance position supports the day-to-day operations and maintenance of Wildwood Conservation Area by assisting with facility and equipment maintenance, custodial duties, and special events. This position also helps deliver recreation services with a strong focus on safety, customer service, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities
  • Support the day-to-day operations of the Conservation Areas.
  • Perform a wide variety of custodial functions including grass cutting, tree trimming, facility maintenance, garbage collection, plumbing, electrical, excavations, and related duties.
  • Carry out a variety of mechanical tasks on vehicles and equipment, performing tasks not requiring a licensed mechanic, including minor tune-ups, regular servicing and repairs.
  • Liaise with day users, campers, and clubs using UTRCA recreation areas and services to identify their needs, resolving issues and concerns and ensuring their reasonable satisfaction.
  • Assist or directly undertake special events and activities within the recreation areas or on lands of the UTRCA, as well as take the lead on all special event set-up and tear down.
  • Undertake the effective intake, handling, security and processing of cash receipts from users of the recreation areas when required.
  • Assist with the delivery and evaluation of the recreation programs and services that emphasize safety and user satisfaction.
  • Assist with maintaining safety systems and procedures relating to all dimensions of recreation areas activities and operations.
  • Support the Superintendent and other team members in other work areas of the conservation area as needed, within the scope of training and operational requirements.
Qualifications
  • Secondary School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Enrollment in a diploma or equivalent from a recognized postsecondary institution in Parks, Recreation, Trades, Law Enforcement or another related field is considered an asset.
  • Working experience in Conservation Area maintenance and operations, or in a related environment is preferred; candidates with transferable skills are encouraged to apply.
  • Experience in using equipment such as trucks, tractors, riding mowers, grass trimmers, hand tools is preferred, training will be provided.
  • Knowledge of, or willingness to learn about, the Conservation Authorities Act and applicable regulations.
  • Familiarity with drinking water systems and applicable regulations would be an asset with the ability to be trained to operate Conservation Areas drinking water systems.
  • Knowledge and comfort working with computers.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact respectfully with diverse members of the public and work effectively as part of a team.
Certifications, Memberships, Licenses
  • Valid Ontario Driver’s License and valid CPR/First Aid
  • Successful candidates will be required to provide a satisfactory police check to commencement of employment.
