Overview
Wrightington, Wigan & Leigh NHS Foundation Trust (WWL) are looking to recruit a forward-thinking and motivated Specialty Doctor in Microbiology to join our microbiology team delivering our clinical microbiology and virology services to WWL and other users within the local area. The posts present an excellent opportunity for experienced clinicians with comprehensive understanding of microbiology to join our dynamic team committed to the delivery of the highest standard of care.
The Trust has excellent postgraduate and research facilities and is an Associate Teaching Hospital of the University of Manchester. The Trust is also working with Edge Hill University and supporting the new Medical school resulting in opportunities to be involved in undergraduate education. Study leave for CPD is supported and assistance with funding is provided up to an agreed limit.
QualificationsNote: FRCPath Part 1 & Part 2 is an essential requirement for this role.
Department and ServiceThe Microbiology department at WWL delivers clinical microbiology and virology services to the trust, Primary Care and community services. The department provides an extensive range of bacteriology, serology and mycology services. Successful applicants will make use of the laboratory services located at Salford Royal Hospital, delivered to both Trusts as part of a joint venture - Pathology at Wigan and Salford or “PAWS”.
Responsibilities- Clinical roles across microbiology and virology services as part of the joint PAWS venture and local services.
- Engagement in clinical liaison service with strong links to critical care.
- Laboratory support and collaboration with Infection Prevention & Control and antimicrobial stewardship.
- Support MSK surgical services provided at Wrightington Hospital.
- Participation in out of hours rota (1:12).
On-Call:
Senior positions (AFC band 8A or above) may be expected to participate in an on-call rota, if the role is predominantly operational.
