School Crossing Patrol Officer – Wickford County Infant School

Hours:

5 hours 50 minutes per week (approx. 39 weeks of the academic year). 35 minutes between 08:25 – 09:00 in the morning and 35 minutes between 14:55 – 15:30 in the afternoon, depending on site requirements.

Uniform, equipment, and training will be provided.

Join Essex County Council’s School Crossing Patrol Team as a School Crossing Patrol Officer at Wickford County Infant School (Irvon Hill, Wickford, London Road site). Support the schools once in the morning and once in the afternoon, ensuring the safety of all pedestrians crossing the road to and from school and its surrounding locations.

We are looking for a punctual, reliable, approachable individual who enjoys engaging with the public.

• Take into account the needs of people with disabilities, especially mobility‑impaired individuals wishing to use the crossing point.
• Maintain regular contact with the schools attended by children using the crossing.
• Regularly assess the risks associated with operating at the crossing site to identify any problems and report them to the supervisor.
• Assist in preparing reports on accidents, failures to stop incidents, and other incidents occurring at the crossing site.
• Ensure that all uniform and equipment provided is maintained in good condition and request replacements when needed.
• Give clear signals to drivers when stopping traffic and ensure that traffic remains at rest until the road at the crossing point is clear of pedestrians.
