Job Title: Coordinator - District Athletics

Position Function: The District Athletics Coordinator supports student achievement by organizing, coordinating, and expanding middle school interscholastic athletic programs across Wichita Public Schools. This role works under the supervision of the District Athletics Director and plays a key role in developing equitable, engaging, and well‑managed athletic opportunities for middle school students. In addition to leading middle school athletics, the coordinator provides support for high school athletics and activities as directed by the District Athletics Director.

Employee Punctuality and Appearance:

  • Expected to work all scheduled hours and perform all assigned duties unless approved leave is granted.
  • Must maintain a professional appearance that reflects positively on WPS.

Additional Duties: Performs other duties as assigned by the District Athletics Director or designee.

Equipment: May require use of district technology such as computers, iPads, and SMART Boards, as well as standard office equipment. Must comply with Wichita Public Schools guidelines for equipment use.

Travel: Frequent travel between middle school sites and central office locations is required.

Interrelations:

  • Works closely with school administrators, coaches, district staff, and community partners.
  • Reports directly to the District Athletics Director.
  • Interacts with students, families, and external organizations in a professional and supportive manner.

Essential Performance Responsibilities:

  • Leads the planning, coordination, and implementation of all middle school athletic programs and events.
  • Develops and maintains middle school athletic schedules.
  • Reschedules middle school contests as needed due to weather, facility conflicts, or other factors.
  • Collaborates with the District Athletics Director to ensure alignment of middle school athletics with district‑wide goals, policies, and procedures.
  • Assists with scheduling and coordination of high school athletic events and activities as needed.
  • Supports the recruitment, onboarding, and development of coaches.
  • Oversees assignment and supervision of contest officials for middle school events.
  • Assists in managing middle school athletic budgets and purchasing equipment and uniforms.
  • Promotes middle school athletics through communication with families, schools, and community partners.
  • Implements and monitors attendance, eligibility, and conduct policies for middle school athletes.
  • Collaborate with facilities and operations staff to ensure middle school athletic facilities are safe, functional, and well‑maintained.
  • Leads regular meetings with middle school athletic leaders and coaches to provide updates, training, and support.
  • Collects and analyzes data related to middle school athletic participation, equity, and program effectiveness.
  • Supports the execution of Greater Wichita Athletic League policies and procedures as they relate to middle school athletics.
  • Assists with high school athletic operations, including scheduling, event management, and coordination with KSHSAA, as directed.

Qualification Profile:

  • Current, valid Kansas teaching and administrative certification.
  • Experience in coaching, athletic administration, or youth sports leadership preferred.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in education or athletics, with leadership experience preferred.
