Job Overview

The City of Wichita is hiring a Lifeguard 2 for our neighborhood pools. This seasonal, entry‑level position focuses on pool safety, emergency response, swim instruction, and team support. The role offers opportunities for skill development, leadership exposure, and regular in‑service training.

• Monitor assigned recreational pool areas to detect hazards, enforce safety policies, and respond promptly to emergencies.
• Instruct assigned swim lessons and assist with City of Wichita Swim Teams.
• Participate in regular in‑service training, pool equipment maintenance, and facility cleaning.
• Follow all City of Wichita Parks pool policies and procedures.
• Perform additional job‑related duties as assigned.

• Ability to listen, read, interpret, and apply instructions.
• Physical strength: lift up to 50 lbs, move up to 80 lbs with assistance, climb steps or ladders.
• Commit to working outdoors in unpleasant weather and tolerating airborne nuisances.
• Perform life‑guarding activities, including swimmer rescue techniques.
• Develop and maintain effective relationships with associates and the public.
• Pass American Red Cross Lifeguard training, drug screening, and a satisfactory criminal record check.

• Interview process begins early March 2026.
• Neighborhood pools open Monday, May 25 2026.
