As a Lifeguard 2 for the City of Wichita, you’ll play an essential role in keeping our neighborhood pools safe and fun for all patrons. This entry‑level seasonal position offers you the chance to enhance your lifeguarding skills, gain public contact experience, and contribute to a positive, engaging environment for pool‑goers of all ages.
You will actively monitor pool areas to prevent and respond to emergencies, enforce safety policies, and assist in swim lessons and swim team activities. This position also offers valuable opportunities for growth, including participation in regular in‑service training, learning how to handle pool equipment, and providing assistance with pool maintenance. THISIS A LIMITED PART-TIME POSITION

2026 Important Dates- The interview process is scheduled to begin in early March 2026.
- Save the date! Neighborhood pools are set to open Monday, May 25, 2026.
Applications will be reviewed on an ongoing basis, and candidates will receive an update on their application status. Candidates who meet the requirements will be contacted for interviews closer to the anticipated hiring timeframe, beginning in March.

- Monitor assigned recreational pool area to detect hazards, disturbances, or safety infractions, by practicing preventative lifeguarding.
- Recognize and respond effectively in emergencies.
- Enforce all City of Wichita Parks pools policies and procedures.
- Instruct assigned Swim Lessons.
- Assist as needed in City of Wichita Swim Teams.
- Participate in regular in‑service training.
- Assist in cleaning the facility and related areas and maintenance and operation of pool equipment.
- These examples are not intended to be all‑inclusive. Other job‑related duties may be assigned as needed.
- At no time should any other job duties interfere with the primary responsibilities of a lifeguard:
The safety of the patrons.
- Ability to listen to, read, interpret, and apply instructions received.
- Ability to lift empty containers weighing up to 60lbs up to a 4 ft height.
- Ability to lift and move large, sometimes bulky objects weighing up to 80lbs with assistance.
- Ability to climb steps or ladders.
- Ability to move about quickly and stand, walk, reach, bend, stoop or squat, as needed to perform assigned tasks.
- Ability to work outdoors in unpleasant weather conditions.
- Ability to tolerate airborne nuisances associated with open grounds and windy conditions.
- Ability to climb onto and sit on a lifeguard tower for extended periods of time.
- Ability to physically perform life‑guarding activities, including techniques of swimmer rescue.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the public.
- Must be at least 16 years old or older.
- Have a current American Red Cross CPR‑PR, First Aid, LGI, LGT, and WSI certifications.
- Applicants must satisfactorily demonstrate required skills including swimming, CPR‑PR and first aid.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need of a sponsorship.
Offers of employment are contingent upon passing American Red Cross Lifeguard training, drug screening, and upon satisfactory evaluation of a criminal record check.
