IT/OT Software Engineer

Flint Hills Resources is looking for an IT/OT Software Engineer to join our IT/OT capability at our Wichita, KS headquarters. FHR’s IT/OT capability is a key driver in our vision to integrate our manufacturing capability with next‑generation technologies both at the edge and in our cloud environments. This role will build close relationships with a focused group of key plant teams, understand plant operational and work processes in depth, and participate in the engineering of technology solutions to address those objectives.

You will work with the extended IT/OT teams responsible for managing IT infrastructure and cyber‑security to inform development of architectural standards, monitoring capabilities, and security standards.

As an IT/OT Software Engineer you will create value for FHR by applying modern software development practices in support of our critical manufacturing systems. Current focus areas include telemetry, monitoring, closed‑loop data integrations, machine learning, and just‑in‑time data integrations to accelerate FHR’s manufacturing vision. Operating excellence, scalability, and end‑to‑end integration with plant work processes are key to our success.

• Develop software solutions to gaps in work processes (integrations, monitoring, user enablement) using modern toolsets and technologies.
• Create secure, scalable, and reliable software for deployments ranging from edge container environments to AWS cloud technologies.
• Partner with plant operations and transformation teams to execute projects, understand functional requirements, and evaluate alternative solutions.
• Deliver full‑stack and full‑lifecycle deployments from concept through deployment and platform operation.
• Assist with technical design, code reviews, architecture, and execution of solutions, leveraging best knowledge across multiple IT disciplines.
• Travel to our plants to collaborate with customers on solutions integrations into work processes.
• Respond to incidents and unplanned events while participating in an after‑hours on‑call rotation.

• Minimum 2 years of software engineering experience.
• Experience with AWS serverless technologies (e.g., AWS Lambda, SQS, Cloud Formation, Cloud Front, Dynamo
  
  DB, RDS) or on‑premises deployments on Windows and Linux hosts, including services/daemons and containerization tools.
• Experience in design and architecture of custom‑built applications.
• Ability to travel occasionally (up to 15%).

• Experience in manufacturing environments or real‑time systems.
• Experience with AVEVA PI Server software and development of application interfaces.
• Experience with Docker and Kubernetes containerization and deployment.
• Experience designing and implementing systems, integrations, and applications in AWS.
• Experience with real‑time systems at the edge and strategies for rapid deployment and scalable support.
• Experience automating alerting and response, using tools such as Tanium or Log Rhythm.
• Familiarity with software development lifecycle, CI/CD, and GIT.
• Experience managing IT/Software initiatives and projects, leading status meetings, gathering requirements, and delivering agile deliverables.
• Experience with customer and third‑party interactions, backlog management, and engagement activities.
