In this role the Gas Operations Technician will safely perform general gas distribution system maintenance, operation, leak survey, odorization, CP and construction work.

This posting includes the full pay range for this position. Pay is based on factors such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and internal equity.

• Level I: $25.72 - $38.44 per hour / Grade 45
• Level II: $28.75 - $43.17 per hour / Grade 46
• Senior: $32.36 - $48.41 per hour / Grade 47

Gas Operations Supervisor

Location:

Wichita, Kansas

• Provide recommendations on proper material type and size to accommodate load requirements and pressure.
• Ensure accurate location and installation of facilities such as service lines, mains and meter sets.
• Proficient in underground line locating.
• Classify and repair leaks in above and underground facilities.
• Perform gas measurement, pressure regulation and over pressure protection installations.
• Install facilities according to specifications such as trench depth/width, proper auguring, plowing and shoring.
• Perform hot line tapping of mains and services of various sizes and types with proper equipment and procedures.
• Perform leak repairs on underground facilities using approved methods based on sizes of mains and services.
• Maintain certification and perform plastic fusion of mains and services and proper installation of mechanical fittings.
• Conduct Walking Gas Leak Survey with an instrument.
• Perform odorant checks and maintenance on odorizers.
• Perform CP checks.

• Perform pressure testing of facilities to ensure integrity and satisfy company and regulatory requirements, and manage corrosion control by painting and coating applications (above and below grade).
• Inspect and supervise construction activities of gas contract construction crews.
• Other duties as required.

Level I

• High School Diploma or equivalent.

Level II

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in natural gas, construction, maintenance, or related fields.

Senior

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience in natural gas, construction, maintenance, or related fields.

• Comprehensive understanding of gas operating safety procedures.
• Familiarity with Black Hills construction standards and procedures.
• Ability to pass PE Fusion certificate.
• Ability to prioritize projects and equipment needs while maintaining a rigorous construction activity schedule.
• Mechanical aptitude with ability to read operation manuals; solid understanding of regulators, meters, pipe fitting and gas operations.
• Ability to stay calm and make effective decisions during emergency situations affecting safety.
• Effective customer interaction and resolution skills.
• Familiarity with steel welding procedures.
