Responsibilities
  • Assumes responsibility for the leadership of the Nursing Department during non‑business hours.
  • Facilitates management of staffing and patient flow functions to assure safe and appropriate patient placement.
  • Communicates with department leadership when issues identified to assure timely resolution.
  • Assists leadership to ensure the stability and reputation of the hospital by ensuring compliance with all legal, licensure, and accreditation requirements as designed by accrediting agencies.
  • Communicates with Quality Management department to identify potential QA or risk issues; performs any necessary investigation, documentation, and follow‑up as required.
  • Responds to patient complaints in accordance with WMC procedure; acknowledges the importance of customer service and need for timely follow‑through on issues identified.
  • Serves as a consultant and/or resource to staff on operational issues for nursing.
  • Counsels personnel concerning performance, attitude, and interpersonal relationships; addresses staff concerns in a professional and timely manner.
  • Assures an appropriate skill mix and staffing level in accordance with volume and patient acuity needs at the facility level.
  • Focuses on building relationships with physicians.
  • Utilizes necessary reports daily to monitor house workload and manager resources for the shift.
  • Updates scheduling system prior to each staffing cycle.
  • Coordinates hospital diversion activities.
  • Accepts EMTALA reports from transferring facilities and forwards the report to the receiving department.
  • Manages stressful situations in a professional and appropriate manner.
  • Serves as a resource/mentor for nursing staff and the interdisciplinary team.
  • Completes written performance evaluations on all assigned personnel by the evaluation date.
  • Possesses knowledge of selection criteria for staff recruitment.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Registered Nurse with a Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification.
