Overview
JOB TITLE: Machinist 1st Shift Weekends (This shift will consist of working 12 hours on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, but receive pay for 40 hours - a shift differential of $1/hr. will be paid for those working the weekend shift). Siemens control experience a plus!
OBJECTIVE: This position is for machinists with a minimum of 3 years of experience. To mill, drill, bore, or ream parts from extrusions, bar stock, forging, plate, assemblies or composites that meet or exceed the specifications of our customers by means of CNC programs, conventional machines, and spar mills.
Special Work Conditions and Americans with Disabilities Requirements- Prolonged periods of standing, stooping, crouching, bending, and stretching.
- Lifting up to 50 lb. without assistance and over 50 lb. with assistance.
- Constant exposure to general shop conditions, including machine noise and metal dust.
- Constant repetitive use of hands, wrists, and arms.
- 3, 4, and 5-axis machines with a variety of controls
- Conventional mills, drills, lathes, and boring machines
- Twist Mills, Pad Mills, Onsruds, and Vertical Mills
- Single or multiple spindled work centers

- Knowledge of blueprints, Engineering Orders (E.O.), Statistical Process Controls (SPCs), and Drawing Change Notices (DCNs).
- Follows instructions from planning, setup sheets, shop charts, and verbal instructions.
- Be familiar with multiple machine controls
- Perform the necessary actions to find and load the correct program from the DNC and understand the process for removing old programs from the machine control.
- Setup, with full to moderate assistance, the operations required to produce a quality part.
- Maintain quality standards focusing on reducing the number of defects due to workmanship.
- A basic to advanced working knowledge of the various precision measuring tools used within the department.
- Understand what to check and when to use the various precision measuring instruments to ensure a quality part is being produced.
- Keep all company-owned and personal precision measuring equipment calibrated.
- Perform preventive maintenance on equipment according to the checklist at the machine.
- Maintain good housekeeping practices to ensure a safe, well-organized work area.
- Safety glasses, steel-toed shoes, earplugs, aprons, gloves, and any other safety-related items as defined by the supervisor/lead person will be required.
- Proper disposal of hazardous waste as defined by supervisor/lead person as well as how to find and use the Safety Data Sheets.
- Basic knowledge of shop math and how to apply it. (SAE and Metric dimensioning)
- Knowledge of the different types of tools and tool holders, as well as our tool setting procedures.
- Demonstrate good communication with supervisor/co-workers and use time wisely.
- Work overtime as required to meet the customer schedule.
- Learn and adhere to company policies and procedures defined in the company handbook.
- Retain and perform all typical basic job requirements with minimal assistance based on area and degree of difficulty.
- Capable of setting up and performing the requirements of new or difficult product families with moderate to minimal assistance.
- Demonstrate good communication skills with supervisor/lead person, co-workers, and support departments.
- Show and maintain value-added time management skills.
- Achieve and maintain quality throughout the entire production process by verifying customer requirements by the use of precision measuring equipment.
- Maintain a high standard of quality by meeting or exceeding the expectations of scrap parts due to workmanship.
- Advanced shop math skills.
- Become proficient on one machine or machine control with minimal assistance required to produce parts on those machines. Must also have a working knowledge of at least two other machines or machine controls.
- Capable of training new employees on Level I tasks.
- Advanced blueprint capabilities, including the ability to find or calculate missing dimensions.
