The ideal candidate will be responsible for assisting attorneys in all stages of litigation matters. This candidate should feel comfortable conducting research, doing data entry, scheduling, maintaining case files, and completing other ad-hoc requests, as needed.
General Paralegal Responsibilities- Draft correspondence, pleadings, motions, briefs, notices, subpoenas, affidavits, contracts, will and many other documents
- Research and analyze law sources such as statutes, recorded judicial decisions, legal articles, treaties, constitutions, and legal codes
- Investigate facts and law related to client matter including public records and social media
- Organize and update client matter file
- Meet with clients, attorneys, and other professionals regarding client matters
- Direct communication with clients, witnesses and court or governmental officials
- E-file in state and federal courts as well as with recorder, Secretary of State, and other government offices
- Determine and track relevant deadlines
- Record time for substantive legal work to be billed to clients
- Routine office duties
- Manage incoming and outgoing discovery including drafting request and responses; document production, indexing and review; requesting records; preparing medical records and billing chronologies
- Assist in depositions, mediations, and trails
- Witness investigation and preparation
- Summarize depositions, interrogatories and testimony
- Completion of an education program for paralegals which has been approved by the ABA or offered by an accredited institution which is in substantial compliance with ABA guidelines for the approval of paralegal programs AND/OR
- Completion of one of the nationally recognized examinations specially designed for paralegals AND/OR
- Completed either of the following:
- A baccalaureate degree in any discipline from an accredited institution and not less than one year of in- house training as a paralegal; OR
- An associate’s degree in any discipline from an accredited institution and not less than three years of in-house training as a paralegal
- Training in legal assistant program preferred
- Strong problem solving and analytical skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent Microsoft and PDF software knowledge and skills
- Exceptional organizational and prioritization of workload skills
