Overview

The Asset and Vendor Specialist for the City of Wichita’s Information Technology Department plays a critical role in ensuring the City’s technology resources are accurately tracked, responsibly managed, and strategically supported throughout their lifecycle. This position oversees the procurement, inventory control, and record management of hardware, software licenses, warranties, and service agreements used across City departments.

Serving as the central point of coordination for technology assets and vendor relationships, the specialist ensures timely equipment distribution, maintains reliable inventory records, and supports standardization efforts that strengthen operational efficiency. By partnering with vendors and internal stakeholders, this role safeguards the City’s technology investments and helps departments stay equipped to deliver essential public services. The position is ideal for a detail-oriented professional who thrives in structured environments and values accountability, organization, and collaboration in a mission-driven public service setting.

The day and hours for this position: Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm

Responsibilities
  • Assists in developing standards and procedures for the use of PC and other office systems.
  • Provides training for PC users.
  • Responds to telephone inquiries and answers users' questions.
  • Develops solutions to problems arising from the operation of standard or custom software or hardware.
  • Provides on-site PC support to end users.
  • Provides assistance to all or a specific department in the use of standard or custom application software packages.
  • Removes and installs computer equipment.
  • Configures and tests computers and standard or custom application software.
  • Keeps staff informed of any issues and fixes for Microsoft Office products.
  • Assists in recognizing and developing record systems, communication systems and/or other process improvements.
  • Completion of work assignments may require the operation of a vehicle.

  • Other duties may be assigned as needed.
  • Knowledge of PC operating and configuration methods.
  • Working knowledge of current PC operating systems, including MS XP and MS XP Professional.
  • Knowledge of standard PC component configurations and ability to access, interpret and record information using standard MS Office applications.
  • Demonstrated experience in API calls and HTTP requests, including the ability to design, test and troubleshoot system integrations across platforms.
  • Proven experience with robotic process automation, low code development tools, and other enterprise automation platforms, with a track record of improving efficiency through workflow automation.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates, other employees and representatives of outside agencies
  • Ability to train and advise users of MS Office or SharePoint applications and a department's current operating system.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, user departments and end users.
  • Ability to use a computer for up to seven hours per day.
  • Ability to help users in person, over the telephone and/or by computer for at least seven hours per day.
  • Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to bend or stoop to file and retrieve documents from a filing cabinet for up to one hour per day.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Candidate should possess a strong customer service skill set, with the ability to communicate in multiple ways to customers.
  • Candidate should possess ability to strategically situate inventory, both geographically and within a supply chain, to improve economic efficiency and best serve customers.
  • Candidate should possess a strong understanding of information governance and IT operating procedures.
  • May require ability to carry and respond to an after-hour pager on a rotational basis.
  • May require ability to acquire and maintain a valid Kansas driver's license.
