Job Description
Midwest Drywall is seeking a hands-on Director of Human Resources to build a modern, scalable people function supporting a growing, multi-state construction organization. This is a career-defining opportunity for a strategic thought partner who balances vision with execution and thrives in operational, field-driven environments.
This role will serve as a trusted advisor to executive leadership, helping shape company culture, develop leaders, and build the workforce infrastructure required to support Midwest Drywall’s long-term growth strategy. The ideal candidate is equally comfortable on job sites, in regional offices, and in executive-level discussions.
Experience supporting construction, skilled trades, manufacturing, or other field-based work forces is strongly preferred.
What You’ll Own- Build and lead the HR function from the ground up, including strategy, structure, systems, processes, culture, and day-to-day execution—initially operating lean and hands-on while scaling the team and function over time.
- Partner with executive leadership to align people strategy with business objectives and long-term growth plans.
- Drive culture, engagement, and leadership development across multiple business units and geographic markets.
- Design and implement enterprise-level strategies across talent acquisition, workforce planning, skilled trades recruiting and retention, leadership development, succession planning, and compensation and incentive programs.
- Strengthen and standardize HR infrastructure while keeping processes practical, efficient, and field-friendly.
- Own compliance, labor relations, and risk management across all jurisdictions.
- Act as a visible leader across the organization, building trust with both field and office teams.
- Serve as a thought partner to the executive team on organizational design, leadership effectiveness, and change management.
- Proven ability to build credibility with frontline leaders and senior executives and bridge communication across the organization.
- Comfortable operating in ambiguity and growth environments with strong judgment and prioritization skills.
- Experience modernizing HR without over complicating it.
- Data-driven, but people-first leadership style.
- Direct, grounded, and respected approach to leadership.
- Willingness to spend time in the field and understand jobsite realities.
- 10+ years of progressive HR leadership experience, including senior-level responsibility.
- Experience building, scaling, or transforming HR functions.
- Proven success supporting growing, multi-location organizations.
- Strong foundation in labor relations, employment law, and compliance.
- Executive-level presence with the ability to influence and advise senior leadership.
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.
Midwest Drywall offers a competitive total compensation package designed to attract and retain high-impact leaders. Cash compensation for this role will consist of a base salary and an annual discretionary performance-based bonus, aligned with individual contribution, leadership effectiveness, and company performance.
