OpportunityHandling multi‑state sales/use tax recovery projects for large, sophisticated organizations takes more than just a technical understanding of current sales and use tax rules. As a Sales and Use Tax Manager, assigned to EY’s Sales and Use Tax Lookback Review Center of Excellence (COE), you’ll build and apply your knowledge on a wide range of sales and use tax recovery projects for clients in multiple industries.

There’s no average day for a Sales and Use Tax Manager in the COE, so you’ll likely spend your time on a diverse array of projects, responsibilities and tasks. Whatever you’re working on, our clients will turn to you for up‑to‑the‑minute tax advice they can always rely on. To make that happen, you’ll work in a highly collaborative culture, where listening to and sharing information with colleagues is essential.
Skillsand Attributes for Success
- Research clients’ business operations and build long‑lasting relationships with them
- Identify applicable sales and use tax exemptions and exclusions
- Identify potential over‑payment opportunities or risks and communicate these to clients
- Monitor current tax law changes, to maintain credibility as a trusted advisor
- Develop clear, intelligent plans and approaches for sales and use tax recoveries
- Prepare and defend sales and use tax refund claims
- Participate on a motivated team of professionals
- Manage a motivated team of professionals, guaranteeing they have the skills, knowledge and opportunities to reach their full potential
- A bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or a related discipline
- Professional knowledge in a broad range of sales and use tax processes, concepts and tools
- Experience managing budgets, people and projects
- A proven record of excellence in a professional services or tax organization
- Technical writing and research experience in a tax context
- The ability to prioritize when working on multiple complex projects
- Strong influencing skills, and the confidence to question existing processes
- Willingness to travel as needed, and work in a balanced hybrid environment
- An achieved CPA qualification, certification as a member of the Institute for Professionals in Taxation, CMI designation, or membership in a state bar

What We Offer- We offer a comprehensive compensation and benefits package where you’re rewarded based on performance and recognized for the value you bring. The base salary range for this job in all geographic locations in the US is $105,100 to $192,600. The base salary range for New York City Metro Area, Washington State and California (excluding Sacramento) is $126,100 to $218,900. Individual salaries within those ranges are determined through a variety of factors, including education, experience, knowledge, skills and geography.
