Summary:
The Operations Finance Manager is responsible for managing and enhancing Midwest Drywall’s cost accounting system to ensure accurate job costing, financial reporting, and profitability analysis. This role will work cross‑functionally with finance, operations, and estimating teams to develop cost control strategies, improve financial transparency, and support data‑driven decision‑making.
Key Responsibilities:Cost Accounting & Analysis
- Maintain the company’s comprehensive job cost tracking system across all divisions.
- Understand the full job cost capability of Spectrum and implement new capabilities as selected by management.
- Partner with project managers to analyze job cost variances and provide actionable insights to leadership.
- Ensure the accurate allocation of indirect costs to projects.
- Establish and maintain a system for labor analysis, including analyzing unit costs and labor variances.
- Monitor labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor costs to identify trends and cost‑saving opportunities.
- Work closely with estimating teams to validate cost assumptions, refine cost models, and ensure alignment between estimated and actual costs.
- Participate in job turnover and post‑project debrief meetings to provide insight into financial aspects of projects.
- Prepare the monthly Work‑in‑Progress (WIP) report and provide ad hoc cost reports and analysis for leadership review.
- Assist in budgeting and forecasting with cost‑based financial insights.
- Provide cost‑related support for monthly and annual financial close processes.
- Develop and maintain dashboards and reporting tools to enhance cost visibility.
- Own, develop, and maintain the company’s job cost dashboard, ensuring data accuracy and usability.
- Create, track, and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) related to the prefabrication plant, including production efficiency, material utilization, labor productivity, and overall cost performance.
- Continuously evaluate and improve cost accounting processes for greater efficiency and accuracy.
- Implement and enforce cost control measures to mitigate overruns and improve profitability.
- Conducts audits as directed by management to identify time theft, assess software utilization, and ensure compliance with company policies.
- Work closely with project managers, division leaders, the CEO, and CFO to provide valuable financial insights.
- Support executive leadership with financial modeling to inform strategic decisions.
- Assist in the selection, implementation, and optimization of new software, visualization tools, or other cost management platforms.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
- Solid understanding of GAAP and financial reporting fundamentals.
- Strong Excel skills; experience with ERP systems (Spectrum or similar construction software preferred).
- Detail‑oriented, organized, and able to meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
- Excellent communication and problem‑solving skills.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation preferred
