Avionics Technician
Wichita, KS. This position is available at the National Industrial Air Repair (NIAR) facility adjacent to McConnell Air Force Base.
Work Schedule- 2nd Shift: Monday - Friday, 3:00 PM – 11:30 PM
- Access to Export Administration Regulations (EAR) or International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) controlled technologies required.
- Applicants must be eligible for employment under U.S. export‑control laws and meet the requirement of being a "U.S. Person".
Initiates, leads, and performs functional tests, troubleshooting, and/or repair of avionics and electrical systems. Prepares aircraft for flight test and airworthiness certification.
Essential Functions- Performs inspection, makes adjustments, repairs, replaces components, and corrects any malfunctions or deficiencies with or without power applied to the aircraft.
- Performs maintenance on aircraft in accordance with applicable technical data and regulations.
- Reinstalls aircraft components that obstruct performance of assigned tasks.
- Performs basic mechanical and electrical removals and installations.
- Documents work performed per regulations and coordinates with technical representatives, lab, and other personnel to resolve system or component problems.
- Fabricates parts and/or wire harnesses and installs per engineering specifications.
- Assists with engine removal and installation and in development of installations for engineering.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Four (4) years of experience troubleshooting and repairing aircraft electrical and avionics systems, or an equivalent combination of related technical school or training and experience.
- General Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Operators Radio Telephone License (preferred).
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to read, understand, and interpret engineering drawings.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Basic knowledge of safety and operating procedures for power‑on aircraft.
- Ability to use and interpret a variety of precision measurement instruments.
- Ability to perform basic troubleshooting and repair of aircraft systems.
- Ability to recognize potential electrical hazards to prevent injury to self or others.
- Ability to achieve sufficient technical qualifications to acquire product verification certification.
- Ability to ascend and descend ladders and/or stairs.
- Ability to position self to place, construct, and/or maintain equipment and items in designated spaces, including work in confined and elevated spaces.
- Ability to inspect work, materials, equipment, and/or supplies, and identify errors or determines factors.
- Ability to interpret effectively, accurately, and impartially, both receptively and expressively.
- Ability to remain in a stationary position.
- Ability to communicate with others and accurately exchange information.
- Ability to use tools, equipment, and technology necessary to perform the job, including dexterity in instrument manipulation.
- Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment, including phone, printers, copiers, and calculators.
