Mechanical Engineer – Aircraft Design

Location:

Wichita, KS

Salary: $100,000 - $145,000 (depending on experience)

Responsibilities
  • Perform analyses and simulations to compute aircraft design loads, in support of new aircraft design studies and continued airworthiness of in‑service aircraft
  • Use a large range of commercial and in‑house tools, including a six‑degree of freedom aircraft simulator
  • Use engineering judgment to perform Verification and Validation of analysis results
  • Prepare and maintain finite element model for loads analysis
  • Support and interact with other engineering disciplines such as Flight Characteristics, Structures, Mass Properties, Systems, Fly‑By‑Wire, Landing Gear and Flight Test
  • Support aircraft landing gear development, analysis and test
  • Support flight testing and post‑process results
  • Support in‑service engineering to return aircraft to service
  • Document analyses and findings in engineering certification reports and presentations (English)
Requirements
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering; higher education an asset
  • At least 8 years of experience in external loads analyses in the aerospace industry
  • Good understanding of the FAR 25 certification requirements
  • Strong background in static and dynamic aeroelastic loads analyses
  • Experience developing FEM models, computing airframe design loads and component design loads (high lift and control surface) or performing flutter and aeroservoelastic analysis
  • Previous experience using Nastran for dynamic/aeroelastic analysis; DMAP an asset
  • Good understanding of FEM, unsteady aerodynamics, and frequency‑based data analysis
  • Advanced programming knowledge in Matlab, Python, Fortran, C/C++, and Linux/Windows scripting
  • Good organizational skills in planning work activities and completing tasks within budget and on schedule
  • Excellent analytical thinking, problem‑solving, and communication skills (both written and verbal) and ability to work under pressure
