Clinical Assistant Professor – Internal Medicine

Department: SOM Wichita Internal Medicine (IM) – Internal Medicine

Position Title: Clinical Assistant Professor – Internal Medicine

Job Family Group: Academic

Job Description Summary

This faculty position is primarily dedicated to undergraduate medical education, with a strong emphasis on learner‑centered, evidence‑based teaching and active learning. The role also includes intermittent inpatient clinical care on teaching services at affiliated community hospitals.

This position is 0.1 FTE.

Job Duties Outlined
  • Deliver and facilitate active learning sessions, including but not limited to problem‑based learning (PBL), case‑based learning (CBCL), standardized patient (SP), and simulation‑enhanced instruction.
  • Provide patient care on the inpatient teaching services at our community hospitals as assigned.
  • Collaborate with course directors and curriculum leaders on course design and continuous improvement.
  • Participate in, and lead, resident and student lectures as assigned.
  • Participate in assessment, curriculum evaluation, and accreditation‑related activities.
  • Engage in educational scholarship and faculty development.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, ongoing faculty development programs to improve teaching skills and effectiveness.
  • Serve on department, university, and/or hospital committees, as needed.
Required Qualifications

Education: MD or DO degree or foreign degree equivalent. This position requires a formal degree in the cited discipline area(s) to ensure that candidates have the foundational knowledge and skill set required to perform the duties of the position. The level of degree is based on accreditation requirements, institutional standards of academic and professional excellence, alignment with peer institution benchmarks, and contributes to the credibility and effectiveness of the role within the university community.

Certifications

/ Licenses
  • Board certified or eligible for certification in internal medicine.
  • Hold or be eligible for licensure in Kansas.
Preferred Qualifications

Work Experience:

  • Experience in teaching and supervising medical students and resident physicians.
  • Experience in internal medicine and/or hospitalist medicine.
