Overview

The Construction Faculty member is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction in WSU Techs Construction programs, including the Carpentry Technical Certificate and Associate of Applied Science in Construction Science. The instructor provides students with the practical skills, technical knowledge, and safety awareness necessary to succeed in the construction trades workforce. This role emphasizes hands-on learning in a lab/shop environment supported by classroom instruction.

The instructor will guide students through the construction process from foundational carpentry skills to advanced framing and finish techniques while promoting professionalism, craftsmanship, and workplace safety.

Responsibilities
  • Developing and updating course materials consistent with program standards and competencies.
  • Maintaining accurate records of student attendance and performance.
  • Creating a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student participation.
  • Utilizing various teaching methodologies to cater to diverse learning styles.
  • Engaging in curriculum development and assessment to improve student learning outcomes.
  • Collaborating with other faculty and departments to enhance program offerings.
Qualifications / Requirements

Education:

  • Technical education or higher in Construction Trades or related field, preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of construction industry experience, required (any level).
  • Prior teaching or training experience, not required.

Experience, Knowledge &

Skills:

  • OSHA 10 certification preferred; required within six (6) months of employment.
  • NCCER Certification preferred.
  • Proficiency in carpentry and general construction practices.
  • Ability to plan and manage lab/shop projects efficiently.
  • Commitment to student success and hands-on, applied learning.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse student population, including high school and adult learners.
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe, inclusive, and industry-aligned learning environment.
