We are seeking a Part-Time Math Tutor to assist students in understanding and applying mathematical concepts across various levels, from basic algebra to advanced calculus. The tutor will provide one-on-one and group tutoring sessions, helping students strengthen their problem-solving skills and succeed in their coursework. This role is ideal for individuals with strong mathematical expertise who are passionate about education and student success.
This position requires that at least 60% of tutoring hours be conducted in person at the Academic Success Center on Forsyth Technical Community College’s main campus.
Required:
- A high school diploma or equivalent, and associate’s degree required. Proof of completed coursework, with a final grade of B or higher in Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering Education, or a related field.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher.
- Previous experience tutoring or assisting students in English, writing, or research skills is preferred. We are also open to student applicants without formal experience.
- Provide Academic Support: Conduct one-on-one tutoring sessions for Math students in subjects such as algebra, geometry, trigonometry, statistics, and calculus
. - Prepare and facilitate weekly small group study sessions, creating targeted opportunities for students to hone their confidence with complex concepts.
- Help students develop problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
- Adapt tutoring strategies to meet diverse learning styles and academic needs.
- Use various teaching methods, including diagrams, models, and digital resources, to enhance comprehension.
- Encourage students to develop effective study habits and independent learning skills.
- Assist with Course Material: Guide students through assignments and exam preparation.
- Clarify difficult concepts such as limits, differential equations, and complex functions
. - Support students in applying knowledge to practical and real-world scenarios.
- Track Student Progress: Monitor and document student improvement and areas of difficulty by filing summary reports following each session.
- Provide feedback to students on their academic performance.
- Communicate with faculty or academic support staff regarding student progress as needed.
- Maintain a Supportive Learning Environment: Foster a welcoming and encouraging atmosphere for students.
- Uphold academic integrity and encourage ethical learning practices.
- Respect student confidentiality and adhere to institutional policies.
- Stay Updated on Subject Matter: Working with your supervisor, set professional development goals to expand and develop your knowledge of your subject area(s).
- Additional Responsibilities: Perform other duties as assigned by the Academic Success Center Director to ensure efficient and effective operation of the Center.
