Job Title: Instructional Coach – Elementary

Position Function: The Instructional Coach is responsible for assisting with the coordination and implementation of all aspects of MTSS as identified in the district Strategic Plan and articulated in each building by the School Improvement Plan, State Integrated Improvement Plan, results-based Staff Development Plan and QPA guidelines.

Essential Performance Responsibilities:

  • Support teachers in the implementation of selected curriculum protocol for core instruction and interventions.
  • Collect, assure input, organize and display data.
  • Use data from the Classroom Observation Tool and other measures to assist with identifying, planning, and implementing professional development that supports the goals of MTSS and the school improvement plan.
  • Assist in identifying, acquiring, and organizing available classroom resources to support student achievement.
  • Identify and communicate to classroom teachers effective teaching strategies to meet the educational needs of all students.
  • Attend all Friday Learning Services professional development sessions and other professional development activities as communicated.
  • Complete all 8 days of initial Cognitive Coaching® training within the first year as a facilitator, and incorporate the practices into work with staff.
  • Spend 75% of instructional coach time in direct contact with classroom teachers reviewing data, co-planning, co-teaching, real‑time coaching, or modeling best practices.
  • Instructional Coach may not perform duties considered supervisory or administrative in nature.

Additional Duties: Assists with additional duties as assigned by Supervisor.

Equipment: This position may require the ability to use SMART boards and iPads in addition to basic office equipment such as computers, copiers, scanners, and fax machine. Must always comply with WPS guidelines for equipment use.

Travel: Limited travel between schools and central offices may be required.

Physical and Mental Demands:

  • Works in standard office and school building environments.
  • Ability to work outdoors during outdoor student activities.
  • Additional demands on request of Principal, Superintendent.
  • Must be able to respond rapidly in emergency situations.

  • Deep understanding of state standards, curriculum, and assessment program.
  • Demonstrated success in the use of data to improve instruction.
  • Demonstrated success as a leader of learning.
  • Experience in preparing and presenting high‑quality, research‑based professional development.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills within the district and externally with the community.
  • Ability to effectively reflect and engage others in reflecting.
  • Organizational and planning skills for setting short‑term and long‑range goals.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, respect of peers, and ability to build trusting, collaborative relationships.
  • Proficient problem‑solving and willingness to perform modeling and real‑time coaching tasks.
  • Ability to organize, communicate effectively, make decisions, work independently and as a collaborative team member.
  • Ability to perform a variety of tasks, build trust, collaborate, meet deadlines, and work calmly and efficiently.
  • Displays a high degree of professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Conforms to proper standards of professional dress and appearance.
  • Knowledge of the district’s mission, purpose, goals and the role of every employee in achieving each of them.

Qualifications:

  • Teaching license and a minimum of 5 years classroom teaching experience.
  • Master’s degree preferred.
