Pay: Competitive salary with annual performance bonus and regular salary increases
Paid Time Off: 50-55 days per year (26 days annual leave, 13 days sick leave, 11 Federal holidays, and possible 5 days for CME)

The Deputy Chief of Staffs responsibilities include serving as the lead physician during the absence of the Chief of Staff. The incumbent will work with the clinical service chiefs and performance measure champions to improve processes to meet the performance measure goals and improve utilization management. Reviews requests for contracts and helps determine the best way to obtain the required resources.
When problems arise with transfers into and out of the Robert J. Dole VAMC, works with service chiefs, residents, transfer coordinators, and other facilities as needed to coordinate transfers. The Deputy supervises a variety of staff aligned under the Chief of Staff Office and serves on a broad spectrum of medical center committees and task forces. Allocation will be 40% administrative and 60% clinical in the discipline of the incumbent’s board certification.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm
Requirements Conditions of employment- U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
- Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
- Subject to background/security investigation.
- Selected applicants will be required to complete an online onboarding process. Acceptable form(s) of identification will be required to complete pre-employment requirements (Effective May 7, 2025, driver licenses or state-issued identification cards not REAL cannot be used as acceptable forms of identification for employment).
- Must pass pre-employment physical examination.
- Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all VA Health Care Personnel (HCP).

To qualify for this position you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed VA physicians who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.
Basic Requirements:
- United States Citizenship:
Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. - Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree from a school approved by the VA for the year completed.
- Current full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State/Territory/Commonwealth or the District of Columbia.
- Residency Training:
Completed residency in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. VA faculty may require board certification. Approved residencies include ACGME, AOA, or equivalent non-US residencies with five years of verified practice in the US, as deemed appropriate by the local Medical Staff Executive Committee. - Proficiency in spoken and written English.
Degree of Doctor of Medicine or equivalent; schools must be LCME- or AOA-accredited, or equivalent verification for foreign medical graduates per ECFMG where applicable.
