Physician - Deputy Chief of Staff

Overview

The Deputy Chief of Staff's responsibilities include overseeing Clinical Service Departments in the hospital and serving as the lead physician during the absence of the Chief of Staff. The incumbent will work with the clinical service chiefs and related staff to improve processes to meet performance measure goals and improve utilization management.

• Serve as the lead physician during the absence of the Chief of Staff.
• Oversee clinical service departments and coordinate with service chiefs and staff to improve processes and utilization management.
• Review requests for contracts and determine the best way to obtain the required resources.
• Collaborate with service chiefs, residents, transfer coordinators, and other facilities to coordinate transfers as needed.
• Supervise staff aligned under the Chief of Staff Office and participate in medical center committees and task forces.
• Allocate time with an expected mix of administrative and clinical duties (e.g., 40% administrative / 60% clinical according to board certification).
• Work schedule:
  
  Monday–Friday, 8:00 am–4:30 pm.

• United States Citizenship:
  Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens, in accordance with VA policy.
• Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree from an approved school.
• Current full and unrestricted medical license in a U.S. State/territory/District of Columbia.
• Residency training:
  Completion of an ACGME- or AOA-accredited core specialty training program leading to board eligibility.
• For faculty status: board certification (VA physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified).
• Approved residencies: those approved by ACGME or AOA, or other residencies with five years of verified practice in the U.S. deemed appropriate by the local Medical Staff Executive Committee.
• PRPs:
  Physicians in residency training may be appointed as Physician Resident Providers under supervision; must be fully licensed and not privileged as independent practitioners.
• Proficiency in spoken and written English.
