SummaryThe Dental Hygienist will provide oral care such as debridement, hand scaling and regular cleanings to patients, and provide information to assist with developing and maintaining good oral health.
Job DescriptionThis role requires attention to detail, strong organization, excellent written and verbal communication, exceptional time management, and the ability to multi-task and work independently or as part of a cooperative team.
Responsibilities- Patient Population Management:
Demonstrates cultural competence and serves diverse patient populations. - Care Coordination:
Deliver direct patient care to patients as assigned, using established dental hygienist procedures. - Patient Triage:
Perform patient triage and initiate patient care as appropriate for walk-in patients. - Assessment and Planning:
Assess the nature and extent of dental, periodontics and associated conditions and pathology in dental outpatients; develop and implement individualized dental care plans; assess dental condition and needs by analyzing medical records and prescribed protocols to formulate therapy plans. - Communication:
Communicate effectively with vulnerable populations, including those affected by financial status, health literacy, living situation, and age. Maintain confidentiality and display professional oral and written communication; multi-task and adapt to a changing environment; demonstrate good judgment and decision making. - Professionalism:
Maintain professional appearance in accordance with Health Core Clinics (HCC) policy. - Quality Improvement:
Participate as a team member on at least one quality initiative team (QI, safety, or employee recognition).
Job Duties
- Use patient screening procedures including medical history review, dental charting and period charting.
- Take patient vital signs as required; document dental history or chief complaints.
- Record and report pertinent observations and patient reactions to dental staff as appropriate.
- Perform routine procedures such as cleaning, polishing, x-rays, application of sealants and fluorides; document lab procedures and follow up on results; independently perform emergency dental procedures.
- Assist with or institute emergency measures for sudden adverse developments during treatment of patients.
- Communicate technical information to non-technical personnel; set up and prepare dental equipment and instrumentation in accordance with regulations and guidelines.
- Assist in preparation of patient care areas and in patient admission, transfer and discharge processes as required.
- Prepare reports and assist with patient reception, telephone inquiries, routine triage and other office duties.
- Provide patient education, discharge planning and patient/family teaching under the supervision of a qualified dentist.
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
