Responsibilities

The Psychiatric Nursing Assistant III (PNA III) performs complex (journey-level) rehabilitative patient care services under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) in an inpatient setting.

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide patient care services, emergency and personal care, and engage patients therapeutically.
  • Observe, report, and document patient conditions and behaviors in an electronic record.
  • Maintain direct and ongoing therapeutic interactions to promote independent living and social skills.
  • Contribute to the recovery team with verbal and written communication, participate in shift reports and recovery team meetings.
  • Perform delegated nursing duties commensurate with competency; may supervise PNA I/II tasks.
  • Assist with activities of daily living, monitor vital signs, and support medication administration under RN supervision.
  • Promote safety and environmental awareness; encourage patient participation in programs; co-facilitate groups as assigned.
  • Respond to crisis or psychiatric emergency situations using least restrictive interventions (TIPS) under RN supervision; CPR/AED procedures as appropriate.
  • Provide timely clinical information to RN to support patient care; mentor less experienced staff when needed.
  • Participate in disaster response/COOP activities and may work alternate shifts or locations as required.

Other duties as assigned, including participation in agency obligations for disaster response and COOP.

Knowledge,

Skills And Abilities

(KSAs)
  • Knowledge of patient care techniques and treatment, therapy, and recovery programs.
  • Knowledge of basic computer skills and documentation procedures.
  • Interpersonal and leadership skills to collaborate with team members.
  • Skill in taking vital signs and basic clinical tasks.
  • Ability to read, write and understand English; ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to provide patient care, administer first aid/CPR, and support TIPS.
  • Ability to work with others and accept supervision; ability to train and guide others.
Registrations, Licensure Requirements Or Certifications

If transporting patients, must possess a valid Texas driver's license or obtain it within 90 days of hire. Out-of-state driving records may be required. CPR certification or ability to obtain CPR within 60 days of employment.

Qualifications

Initial Screening Criteria:
At least two (2) years of work experience; one year of psychiatric patient experience or direct care required. Additional Information:
Two years of patient experience or direct care preferred.

Pre-employment requirements include fingerprint background check, drug screen, and registry checks (CANRS, Nurse Aide, Medication Aide, Employee Misconduct, LEIE). Males 18-25 must be registered with Selective Service. All applicants must be at least 18;
Waco Center for Youth applicants must be 21. Flexibility in work hours; overtime may be required. Immunization policy adherence is required; vaccination may be required or protective measures applied if not immunized.
