The Director of Counseling and Disability Support Services provides strategic leadership, oversight, and management of counseling services and disability accommodations to support students' academic, personal, and emotional success. Responsible for administering and coordinating programs and services provided by the Counseling Center and Disability Support Services.

Responsible for supervising clinical activities of professional staff and graduate trainees; develops and implements the policies and procedures of the Counseling and Disability Support Services. Provides direct clinical services to students; testing and assessment; emergency/crisis on-call services; evaluation; and documentation.

Responsible for supervising activities of professional staff; accommodations, evaluation and documentation, coordination of appropriate services, and technology for students with disabilities. Ensure compliance with ADA, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and other applicable regulations. Responsible for serving as the ADA Coordinator for the university. The Director of Counseling and Disability Support Services reports to the Executive Director of Student Wellness.

Examples

Oversees individual, couple, and group counseling, crisis intervention, case management, and referral services for students. Coordinates, trains, and supervises the selection and training of professional staff, support staff, and graduate interns. Ensures ethical, legal, and professional standards of practice are consistent with licensure boards and professional organizations. Responsible for developing and implementing policies and procedures, evaluating productivity and data, preparing and submitting monthly and annual reports, and conducting assessments.

Responsible for clinical record keeping, evaluating the efficiency of the clinic, developing and implementing policies and procedures, and administering budgets. Responsible for programming and outreach for consultation, workshops, and seminars to students, staff, faculty, and the community regarding student mental health and disability issues, legalities, policies, procedures, and referrals. Develops and coordinates counselors' programming, presentations, workshops, and clinical activities. Participates in on-call administrative crisis services.

Acts as a liaison between the university, community, and state committees and organizations. Evaluates physical and psycho-educational documentation, coordination of services, accommodations, and technology for students with disabilities. Provides technical assistance on ADA and Section 504 issues for students and employees. Takes an active role in the Division of Student Affairs and university-wide initiatives. Develops and implements emergency and crisis response protocols.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Physical Condition Experience

Three or more years of professional experience in a higher education counseling center, preferably in a leadership capacity. Preferred training and experience in the interpretation of psych-educational and physical health records. Demonstrated record of strong organization and assessment skills. Preferred experience in disability and rehabilitation services. Experience in budget and personnel management. Demonstrated effectiveness in conceptualizing and prioritizing objectives and developing and implementing goals.

Knowledge

Extensive knowledge of clinical counseling and assessment. Ability to interpret and evaluate medical, psychological, and psycho-educational documentation. Knowledge of relevant current practice and associated legal doctrine. Knowledge of management techniques and collaborative efforts in a higher education institution. Knowledge of university policies, community, campus services, and resources is desirable.
