Assistant Professor of US History

Position Description and Expectations

The Department of History in the College of Prothro-Yeager College of Humanities and Social Sciences at Midwestern State University invites applications for a full-time, 9-month tenure-track Assistant Professor to begin in Fall 2026.

• Teach 12 credit hours (4 courses) a semester. This includes core courses in U.S. history as well as upper-level courses in public history and/or digital history approaches. Face-to-face and online teaching are both expected.
• Maintain an active research agenda within one’s field of expertise. This may include public and/or digital history projects.
• Provide service to the department, college, and university, including participation in recruitment and retention activities.

• PhD in History (ABD considered with expected completion by August 17, 2026)
• Expertise in Public and/or Digital History. The department is particularly interested in faculty who can teach courses that introduce students to digital tools/techniques and/or the practice of public history.
• Evidence of scholarship research.
• Evidence of teaching effectiveness.

In addition to the required qualifications, individuals with the following preferred qualifications are strongly encouraged to apply:

• Commitment to undergraduate education
• Ability to teach courses that would add to the department’s offerings
• Interest in facilitating internships and/or projects with local and regional organizations
