Wastewater Treatment Electrician (Electrical and Instrumentation Technician)
The Sanitation Districts own and operate one of the largest wastewater recycling programs in the world. We have a long history of providing affordable, high-quality recycled water to help meet the water supply needs within our service area.
JOB SUMMARYUnder the general supervision of a Supervisor of Electrical and Instrumentation Repair, incumbents assemble, install, maintain, calibrate, troubleshoot and repair and/or replace electrical, electronic, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, digital and analog control equipment and systems; operate, maintain, calibrate and repair pneumatic and electronic testing and measuring instruments; maintain records and prepare reports on maintenance and repair work, calibration readings and related data;
order parts, supplies and equipment; instruct lower level classes in the series; read, interpret and prepare schematic diagrams, blueprints, sketches and equipment specifications; perform math calculations related to the trades; drive to and perform inspections on new construction; maintain shop area; and perform related duties as required.
The Wastewater Treatment Electrician is the journey level class of the series. Incumbents perform a wide variety of skilled tasks utilizing a comprehensive knowledge of the trade.
RESPONSIBILITIES OR DUTIESInstallation, maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting, repair, and replacement of instrumentation, computer process control, and electrical equipment and systems; operation and maintenance of pneumatic and electronic testing instruments; record maintenance and reporting; ordering parts and supplies; instruction of junior personnel; read/interpret schematic diagrams and blueprints; math calculations; inspections of new construction; shop maintenance; additional duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS- Four years of progressive experience in installation, maintenance, and repair of instrumentation, computer process control, and electrical equipment and systems.
- Or twelve units of college coursework, or completion of one year of a two‑year degree or certification in instrumentation, electronics or electrical technology (or related field) for one year of experience.
- Or completion of a two‑year degree or certification program in instrumentation, electronics or electrical technology (or related field) for two years of experience.
Knowledge of theories, principles, practices, tools, math formulas and safety considerations related to the installation, maintenance and repair of electrical, electronic, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, digital and analog control equipment and systems, and plant operational systems.
Ability to utilize specialized tools and equipment; independently troubleshoot and repair equipment and systems; read and interpret schematic diagrams, blueprints, sketches, and specifications; maintain records and reports; perform difficult assignments; instruct apprentices.

WORK SCHEDULE9/80 work schedule:
Monday–Thursday (6:00 am–3:30 pm) and Friday (6:00 am–2:30 pm). Regular days off alternate Fridays. Occasional after‑hours, overtime and weekend call‑backs may be required and will be compensated.

RETIREMENT- CalPERS enrollment for new hires; 2% at age 62 or 2% at age 55 for classic members; employee contributions required.
