Position Overview
Performs complex maintenance and repair services of the hospital’s physical plant, including equipment, buildings, and properties. Duties include mechanical, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, paint, and HVAC work. Operates and maintains stationary gas and oil fired boilers and auxiliaries, supplying hot water and steam for other power generating purposes. The employee supports AHMC-Whittier Hospital Medical Center’s mission, core values, strategic plan, and performance improvement plan while adhering to patient service and confidentiality requirements.
Key Responsibilities- Observe and control equipment demands by adjusting valves and other controls.
- Run daily water analysis and adjust chemical feed pump.
- Perform regular inspection tours of the physical plant to ensure safe, efficient operation.
- Log PSI temperature and fluid level, maintaining records with 90% accuracy.
- Report major malfunctions of critical equipment with 90% accuracy.
- Complete work orders promptly, with all materials listed and signed, within 8 hours of completion – 95% compliance.
- Perform preventive maintenance according to manufacturer’s schedules.
- Conduct weekly tests on all emergency equipment, including generators and switch gear.
- Log performance data with 98% accuracy and report malfunctions.
- Maintain clean equipment rooms – central plant floors weekly (95%), dust weekly (80%).
- Cooperate with building maintenance, assist mechanics with heavy lifting, answer status service calls.
- Demonstrate professional conduct, willingness to take on additional duties, and follow hospital policy.
- Participate in group projects, staff meetings, and provide constructive feedback.
- Communicate with supervisors, maintain confidentiality.
- Attend 75% of staff meetings or read and initial minutes.
- Complete assigned work within shift.
- Provide professional guest relations, positive phone protocol, and team effort.
- Complete annual safety updates, orientation, and in‑service programs.
- Maintain licensure/certification as required.
- Strive for performance improvement: meet patient/customer expectations, identify cost controls, improve quality, measure progress.
- Minimum education:
High school graduate. - Minimum experience:
