We are seeking a CMT Field Technician 1 to join our Southern California team! Come join us!
Job Responsibilities- Perform field and plant inspections for HMA and/or PCC production and placement
- Conduct sampling and testing of construction materials in accordance with applicable standards
- Monitor contractor compliance with project specifications and quality standards
- Document and report test results accurately and in a timely manner
- Communicate findings and issues to project engineers and contractors
- Maintain and calibrate testing equipment
- Assist in resolving material‑related construction issues
- Participate in safety meetings and adhere to all safety protocols
- Support project documentation and closeout processes
- Associate’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Materials Science, or a related field.
- OR High School Diploma or GED with 4+ years of relevant experience in construction materials testing or inspection.
- Minimum 3 years of professional experience in construction materials testing, inspection, or quality assurance.
- Experience with Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) and/or Portland Cement Concrete (PCC) plant inspection is required (minimum 1 year).
- ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician—Grade I Certification
- Experience working on transportation infrastructure projects (e.g., highways, bridges, airports).
- Familiarity with Caltrans or other DOT specifications and procedures.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Certifications (preferred or required):
- ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician – Grade I
- Caltrans Acceptance Tester Certification (or ability to obtain within 6 months)
- Nuclear Gauge Safety Certification (for HMA testing)
- OSHA 10 or 30‑Hour Construction Safety Certification
- Valid California Driver’s License and clean driving record
- Ability to pass a background check and drug screening
- Ability to maintain accurate and timely documentation and reports
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Experience with data entry and reporting software (e.g., Site Manager, LIMS)
- Familiarity with nuclear density gauges, slump cones, air meters, and other field testing equipment
- Understanding of construction materials standards (ASTM, AASHTO, Caltrans)
- Knowledge of quality control/quality assurance procedures in construction materials testing
- Ability to travel up to 50% of the time, including occasional overnight stays depending on project location
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety
- Ability to work in various weather conditions and physically demanding environments
- Excellent time management and organizational skills
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends, as needed
$35.00 – $45.00 hourly. The expected salary range for the position is displayed in accordance with the state’s law. Final agreed upon compensation is based upon individual qualifications and experience.
