Child Life Specialist​/Pediatric Recreation Therapy

Overview

Pediatric Child Life Specialist / Teacher (PT Monday - Thursday 8AM-2PM)

The primary purpose of your job position is to provide for the overall development and educational programming for the center’s child participants. The child life specialist, in consultation with the rehabilitation specialist, shall make recommendations for developmentally appropriate activities and measurable goals in each developmental domain, which shall be included in the child’s interdisciplinary plan of care. The child life specialist will provide all participants in the center with routine educational and age-appropriate play activities.

• Assess each child in the program to determine the child’s present performance level in developmental domains including: gross motor, fine motor, cognitive and social.
• In consultation with the rehabilitation specialist the child life specialist will make recommendations for developmentally appropriate activities and measurable goals in each developmental domain.
• Participate in regularly scheduled interdisciplinary staff meetings.
• Provide a program for parents to assist them in meeting the medical, developmental and psychosocial needs of the child at home.
• Develop a daily schedule of activities or lesson plans for all center activity rooms that are:
  Age and developmentally appropriate to meet each child’s needs, abilities, interests, parallel theme(s) of week, month, season to reflect assistant(s) suggestions.
• Prepare classroom environment, play areas and learning centers.
• Assure the safety and well-being of the child.
• Be involved with professional development.
• Complete other duties as assigned by the center.

Must have Child Life Specialist certificate OR teaching certificate.
