We are currently seeking a passionate, innovative, hands‑on Activities Director at Bayview Seniors Living, our new senior living community in White Rock, BC, to plan, facilitate and direct the implementation and regular evaluation of recreation and social programs that provide a meaningful and flourishing experience for our residents in Long Term Care and Memory Care neighborhoods. This is an excellent opportunity for a seasoned candidate to implement activities & life enrichment programs and develop a team from the ground up.

MAJOR

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Plans, leads and coordinates the development, implementation and evaluation of a wide range of activities and life enrichment programs (relevant to each neighborhood) and services designed to meet residents’ physical, emotional, social, cognitive, environmental, vocational and spiritual needs.
  • Fosters and maintains a strong relationship with residents by meeting with residents regularly to assess/discuss activities and life enrichment needs and preferences.
  • Oversees the administrative responsibilities of the Activities & Life Enrichment program at the Community, such as implementing and maintaining established departmental standards and objectives, participating in budget preparation and control and ordering necessary supplies and equipment for the department.
  • Manages the Activities & Life Enrichment Assistant, Bus Driver and Volunteers to ensure that team members needs are met, and standards are maintained.
  • Monitors, manages and provides services related to the Community’s transportation services.
  • Actively participates as a member of a multi-disciplinary team responsible for resident services.
  • Retains and enhances Bayview’s culture and values in all interactions.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required

Successful completion of a diploma in recreation/leisure studies from a recognized community college or university, courses in gerontology. Must demonstrate leadership and organizational skills. Knowledge of programs and techniques in recreation, community resources and program development required. Excellent communication skills necessary. Three - five years’ experience in recreation programming and/or volunteer management for seniors population.

  • Computer proficiency is an asset.
  • Valid driver’s license (Class 4 drive a bus).
  • Current CPR certificate and First Aid.
  • Food Handlers training.
  • Certified Fitness Instructor (preferred). Willingness to obtain certified Instructor status, if required.

  • Ability to motivate others
  • Ability to resolve contentious or sensitive issues or situations
  • Strong computer skills with proficiency in Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of resident information
  • Ability to work in a flexible environment to meet the needs of the residents, including weekend and holiday coverage, as required
