Job Overview

Nuclear Security Officer (4 on 4 off Shift Pattern) – 12‑hour shifts including day and night (2D & 2N). Includes public bank holidays and weekends. Average hourly pay £14.40–£15.00; annual salary £31,536–£32,848 (average 42 hours).

Job Description & Responsibilities

Provide security operations in accordance with the site’s Assignment Instructions (AI) and any changes. Respond to emergencies and ensure the Service Level Agreement is met. Maintain training and self‑development.

Main Duties
  • Manage access and exit points, including vehicle searches, pass verification, and intelligence gathering.
  • Control and safeguard contraband and prohibited items.
  • Conduct internal and external patrols using vehicles and systems.
  • Complete incident reports and daily occurrence logs accurately and timely.
  • Ensure compliance with policies, legal and regulatory requirements, and UK law.
  • Collaborate with Civil Nuclear Constabulary and Cumbria Constabulary to maintain site safety.
  • Review and update Assignment Instructions; suggest improvements.
  • Adhere to industry legislation and client security policies, including Security Industry Authority standards and regulations from the Office for Nuclear Regulation and Nuclear Decommissioning Authority.
  • Maintain vigilance, reporting incidents via radio or telephone.
  • Prepare for prolonged physical duties and, if required, work in trace‑active areas.
Training, Security, and Health & Safety Responsibilities
  • Complete all required training, competency assessments and upskilling.
  • Use technology to achieve key objectives and expand job knowledge.
  • Report any health and safety hazards or potential risks immediately.
  • Maintain professional conduct with challenging situations.
  • Record detailed and accurate notes post‑incident.
  • Ensure check calls and contact emergency services as instructed.
Qualifications
  • Previous security experience (desirable).
  • SIA licence (desirable; will be provided).
  • Customer service experience (beneficial).
  • Full UK driving licence preferred.
  • SC clearance (desirable; required).
