- If selected at the GS-11 level, duties will be performed in a developmental capacity
- Performs a variety of tasks and responsibilities in the areas of course management, educational research, delivery of instruction, curriculum development, educational evaluation, and consultation.
- Oversees, and performs major updates, general maintenance, implementation, administration, scheduling, and evaluation of assigned course(s) of instruction in the field of environmental protection.
- Instructs courses in the field of environmental protection in such areas as environmental laws, Transportation of Haz Mat/Haz Waste, according to Department of Transportation regulations,
- Resource Conservation Recovery Act (RCRA) Facility Compliance, Safety, Manifesting, and Environmental Workshops on the disposal of Hazardous Materials/Hazardous Wastes (HM/HW).
- Develops and maintains course materials for environmental protection courses.
- Conducts research in this field in order to improve the quality of instruction and contribute to the professional body of knowledge relating to environmental protection

To qualify for an Environmental Protection Specialist (Instructor), your resume and supporting documentation must support:
- Specialized
Experience:
One year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular competencies to successfully perform the duties of the position and is directly in or related to this position. To qualify at the GS-12 level, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service, military, or private sector.
To qualify at the GS-11 level, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service, military, or private sector. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements including minimum qualifications, and any other regulatory requirements by the cut-off/closing date of the announcement. Creditable specialized experience includes:
GS‑11:
Performing duties related to the administration, maintenance, and instructing courses associated with transportation certification of regulated Hazardous Materials and EPA Wastes as part of an organization’s environmental program;
Providing on‑the‑job training or instructing courses;
Developing course materials, manuals, or instructions.
GS‑12:
Performing duties related to the administration, maintenance, and instructing courses associated with transportation certification of regulated Hazardous Materials and EPA Wastes as part of an organization’s environmental program;
Developing and/or updating courses of instruction in environmental protection and determining overall training effectiveness;
Instructing courses in the area of environmental protection;
Developing new course materials.
