Position: Safety and Occupational Health Specialist (Instructor)

Duties
  • Performs a variety of tasks and responsibilities in the areas of course management, educational research, delivery of instruction, curriculum development, educational evaluation, and consultation.
  • Serves as Course Manager for assigned courses in Safety and Occupational Health, Environmental Safety, and Hazardous Material/Hazardous Waste (HM/HW).
  • Instructs courses covering areas associated with environmental laws, RCRA facility compliance, and HAZWOPER.
  • Develops and maintains course materials and coordinates with DLA Headquarters.
  • Plans and prepares courses in Safety and Occupational Health, Environmental Safety, and HM/HW handling.
  • Evaluates training received by students.
Requirements
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Tour of Duty:
    Flexible.
  • Security Requirements:
    Non-Sensitive.
  • Appointment subject to favorable suitability/fitness determination; adverse background checks are grounds for removal.
  • Fair Labor Standards Act:
    Exempt.
  • Selective Service:
    Males born after 12‑31‑59 must be registered or exempt.

Qualifications
  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to GS‑11 (for GS‑12 requires GS‑11 experience; for GS‑11 requires GS‑09 equivalent) in Safety and Occupational Health, Environmental Safety, or Hazardous Material/Hazardous Waste and HAZWOPER.
  • Instructing courses in these areas.
  • Course development and project management experience.
  • Experience with evaluative techniques to evaluate instruction programs.

Experience includes paid, unpaid, volunteer including National Service programs.

Applicants should demonstrate extensive knowledge of safety regulations, serve as subject matter expert, develop specialized training, analyze course requirements, manage programs, and communicate safety practices.

Education

Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level.
