** Seasonal assignment for a minimum of 13 weeks

** This position is a member of the
** Labor & Delivery surgical team
** and provides care to the patient during the
** peri-operative period of obstetric procedures**. Possesses knowledge and understanding of the types of procedures performed in OB, including
** cesarean sections and postpartum surgeries**, with appropriate use of surgical instrumentation. Arranges instrumentation to achieve maximum efficiency, anticipates the needs of the surgical team, maintains the integrity of the sterile field, and participates in surgical counts.
* 2+ years of experience as a Surgical Technologist  OR Certification through the certifying body of the Association of Surgical Technologists, Inc.
* AHA BLS Certification (or must be obtained within 2 months of hire)
* Experience in obstetric or women’s health surgical settings (preferred)
* Strong teamwork and communication skills with the ability to work independently
* Excellent attention to detail and ability to remain calm in emergent situations
* Professional, compassionate approach to patient care – especially during childbirth and postpartum
* Work in a collaborative, patient-focused Labor & Delivery environment

* Surgical Technologist Certification through the certifying body of the Association of Surgical Technologists, Inc. preferred.
* Current AHA BLS Certification or must successfully obtain within two (2) months of hire.
* Excellent organizational skills, detail-oriented, a self-starter, possess critical thinking skills and be able to set priorities and function as part of a team as well as independently.
* Commitment to working in a team environment and maintaining confidentiality as needed.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively with various audiences.
* Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations with tact, professionalism, and diplomacy.
* Possess and maintain computer skills to include working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn other software as needed.

* Participates in the planning process for surgical procedures.
* Accurately selects all equipment and supplies needed for surgical cases.
* Accurately sets up sterile table with instruments, supplies, equipment, and solutions as needed for procedure
* Using proper application of the aseptic technique when opening surgical supplies to the sterile field, and while organizing the sterile supplies and equipment for procedures.
* Performs proper hand washing protocol, donning of sterile attire, and begin preparations for the surgical procedure per department procedures.
* Exhibits proper usage of surgical drapes to cover patients.  Maintains and exhibits highest standard of sterile technique during procedures.
* Ensures a safe environment for the patient by maintaining the integrity of the sterile field per department protocol.
* Evaluates all instrumentation and technical equipment to assure it is in proper and safe working condition.  Communicates faulty or broken instruments to Sterile Processing.
