The Pretrial Services Intake Specialist is responsible for enrolling eligible defendants into pretrial services programs following arrest or court referral. This position conducts intake interviews, determines program eligibility, explains supervision requirements, and ensures timely enrollment into agency programs that promote court appearance, compliance, and public safety.
Key responsibilities and essential job functions- Conduct interviews to determine eligibility for pretrial supervision and agency programs
- Enroll defendants into appropriate pretrial programs based on court orders, agency criteria, and assessed needs
- Explain program requirements, supervision conditions, court obligations, and consequences of noncompliance
- Obtain signed program agreements, releases of information, and other required documentation
- Ensure accurate and timely completion of enrollment paperwork and electronic records
- Collect and verify personal, residence, employment, and contact information
- Review criminal history, pending charges, and court orders to support enrollment decisions
- Administer or assist with validated risk and needs assessment tools as required
- Coordinate enrollment with detention staff, courts, attorneys, and law enforcement
- Refer participants to internal or community-based services (e.g., substance use treatment, mental health services, reminders, monitoring programs)
- Communicate enrollment status and program placement to relevant stakeholders
- Maintain accurate, confidential case files in the agency’s case management system
- Enter enrollment data, program assignments, and compliance expectations promptly
- Provide participants with court dates, reporting instructions, and agency contact information
- Support early compliance by answering participant questions and clarifying program expectations
- Special projects and other duties as assigned.
- Knowledge of pretrial services programs, supervision models, and enrollment criteria
- Strong interviewing and engagement skills with justice-involved individuals
- Ability to explain complex program requirements in a clear, respectful manner
- Strong organizational and documentation skills
- Ability to work efficiently in fast-paced, deadline-driven environments
- Cultural competence and professional judgment
- Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, or
- Experience in criminal justice, court services, case management, or program enrollment preferred
- Work performed in court settings, detention facilities, and office environments
- May include evening, weekend, or on-call shifts
- Frequent interaction with individuals in custody or newly released
- Timely and accurate enrollment into agency programs
- Clear communication of expectations and conditions
- Accurate documentation supporting court and agency decisions
- Professional engagement that promotes compliance and court appearance
