Overview
The incumbent will work under the direction of a Senior Boiler Inspector within the Division of Safety & Health. The role consists of scheduled regulatory safety inspections of high/low pressure boilers and boiler installations to ensure a safe operating condition and enforce compliance with statutory provisions of the Labor Law and industrial rules related to boiler operations.
ResponsibilitiesConduct inspections as the result of complaints or accidents. Inspections may require climbing through small openings and climbing on top of boilers. The position may require travel and the appointee must have a valid motor vehicle license in New York State and may be required to undergo periodic medical examinations. A fingerprint background check is required prior to appointment.

Minimum Qualifications:
Four years of commercial, residential, or military experience in boiler making, boiler installation or inspection or in the operation and maintenance of high and/or low pressure boilers including all firing apparatus and control devices. Substitution:
An associate degree in engineering technology, marine engineering, mechanical engineering, or mechanical technology and either two years of commercial, residential, or military experience in boiler making, boiler installation or inspection or in the operation and maintenance of high and/or low pressure boilers including all firing apparatus and control devices.
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must meet the open competitive qualifications from the most recent examination announcement and provide the last four digits of their social security number in their application or resume.
Transfer QualificationsOne year of permanent or contingent‑permanent service in a Grade 12 or higher determined to be similar by Civil Service. Must meet the minimum qualifications of a Boiler Inspector and have a passing score on the Boiler Inspector exam.
