Schedule: Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Compensation:
- Salary Range: $63k – $120k (commensurate with experience and credentials)

Position SummaryThe Histotechnician / Histotechnologist performs a full range of histological technical procedures using manual and automated techniques to produce high-quality pathology slides for review by Pathologists. This role supports accurate diagnosis through strict adherence to quality standards, regulatory requirements, and laboratory best practices.
Essential Functions & ResponsibilitiesHistotechnologist Responsibilities
- Adheres to organizational performance standards, policies, and professional behaviors
- Performs embedding and sectioning of tissue blocks according to established protocols
- Evaluates routine H&E stains daily, identifies inconsistencies, and corrects issues prior to slide release
- Performs and evaluates Special Stains and Immunohistochemistry (IHC), ensuring proper control validation and documentation
- Conducts routine maintenance and basic troubleshooting of laboratory instrumentation
- Verifies embedded paraffin blocks against block logs and performs QC documentation
- Performs frozen sections as needed
- Downloads and prints cassettes for surgical specimens
- Assists with surgical tissue specimen submission, verifying patient data and specimen integrity
- Enters block and cassette data into the LIS (Meditech)
- Records daily quality control data, including temperatures, cleaning logs, and troubleshooting documentation
- Maintains inventory of reagents and supplies; initiates ordering as needed
- Participates in internal and external proficiency testing (including CAP)
- Supports evaluation of new products, procedures, and quality control initiatives
- Utilizes LIS applications for Histology/Cytology functions
- Performs additional related duties as assigned

- Performs Special Stains and Immunohistochemistry with appropriate control checks and documentation
- Performs all other related duties as assigned
- NYS Clinical Laboratory Technologist License or NYS PA License required
- Degree in Medical Technology or related science preferred
- Minimum one year of relevant hospital-based histology experience preferred
- ASCP certification preferred
- NYS Clinical Laboratory Technician License or NYS PA License required
- Degree in Medical Technology or related science preferred
